HarmonyOS NEXT Developer Preview Recruitment
On January 18, Huawei is set to host its most significant HarmonyOS Ecological Conference, promising an immersive experience with the tagline, “Hundreds of rivers are rushing into the sea, thousands of sails are making progress together, and HarmonyOS will share the future with you!” The conference agenda has already sparked anticipation, showcasing Huawei’s commitment to innovation and community collaboration.
A major highlight of this developer conference is the unveiling of “HarmonyOS Next Developer Preview 1.” Huawei has initiated a beta recruitment phase, inviting real developers to participate in a live network environment. This aims to comprehensively test the product’s functionalities and ensure its quality before the official release. Notably, participation is limited, emphasizing the exclusivity and meticulous testing of this developer preview.
The HarmonyOS Next developer preview version is tailored to Kirin 9000S models, specifically the Huawei Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro, and Mate X5. This version, also dubbed “Pure HarmonyOS,” marks a departure from traditional Android AOSP code, adopting Huawei’s in-house developed code for the system base. This strategic move aligns with Huawei’s vision of a fully independent HarmonyOS ecosystem.
An important consequence of this shift is that HarmonyOS Next will no longer support Android apps. Huawei acknowledges the significance of this change, prompting a collective effort from app developers to transition to Harmony Native apps. This crucial shift underscores Huawei’s dedication to building a unique and self-sufficient ecosystem, reinforcing its commitment to software development and user experience.
As the HarmonyOS Next developer preview unfolds, the tech world eagerly awaits insights into the capabilities and features that this “Pure HarmonyOS” will offer. With Huawei pushing the boundaries of its proprietary operating system, the conference serves as a testament to the company’s determination to carve its path in the ever-evolving landscape of mobile technology.
