Samsung’s 360 Foldable Display Prototype Showcases New Form of Flexibility
Flexible display technology has been making waves in the tech industry, with companies like Samsung, Huawei, Honor, OPPO, and many more exploring different possibilities for foldable displays. This has led to the development of foldable phones that are now commercially available to the public.

One of the most notable developments in this area is Samsung’s 360 foldable display phone prototype, which was showcased at CES 2023. This prototype is unique in that it supports both inward and outward folding methods. Samsung has achieved this by using a water drop hinge design, which allows for a smaller and shallower folded gap when compared to current folding screen technology.

It is currently unclear if Samsung will put this technology into commercial use, but it is worth keeping an eye on. Other manufacturers have also demonstrated similar foldable display phone concepts. For example, BOE showcased a similar device in February 2021, which is also capable of folding inward and outward. However, it has yet to be released commercially.
Previous reports have also suggested that Samsung’s next commercial foldable display will use a water drop hinge design, instead of the current “U” shaped hinge. This new design is expected to reduce the gap between the folded display and reduce creases, making for a more seamless folding experience.
Overall, the development of flexible display technologies is an exciting area to watch, with companies like Samsung and OPPO pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with a flexible display. We can expect to see more advancements in this field shortly.
