Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Feature Dumbbell Hinge Design
Samsung has been working to improve the crease area on its foldable devices, and the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 feature a “U” shaped hinge design. This design aims to increase the durability of the foldable display by reducing the stress applied to the folded portion, which can cause damage to the display over time.

However, Samsung has now overcome this issue with a new water drop type structure, internally known as the Dumbbell hinge design. According to reports, the company plans to use this design for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5, which will provide a softer curve in the folded state and reduce the risk of screen creases and cracking.

This water drop hinge design has already been implemented by other companies, such as OPPO, which has used it in the Find N2. The design not only allows for complete closure of the screen after folding but also provides a softer bending curve for the screen, which reduces creases and the risk of cracking.
The water drop hinge is becoming a widely used and mature structural design solution in the folding screen phone market. With the Galaxy Z Fold 5 adopting this design, users can expect an even better look and feel of the phone, as well as an improved user experience.
