According to the IT Home’s report, Xu Wenwei, director of Huawei and director of the Institute of Strategic Research, gave a speech on the theme of “Towards an Intelligent World 2030 – Technical Challenges and Research Directions”. He said that in the next decade, the number of connections will reach hundreds of billions, broadband speed will reach 10Gbps per person, computing power will be increased 100 times, storage capacity will be increased 100 times, and the use of renewable energy will exceed 50%. Technology needs to revolve around the generation, transmission, processing, and use of information and energy.

However, the current rate of annual improvement in single-core CPU performance has dropped from 50% to 10%, and it is a huge challenge to create supercomputing power because of the inefficiency of general-purpose computing in specific areas.

First, digital computing is moving from general-purpose to dedicated, to heterogeneous computing where multiple computing architectures coexist, and various CPUs, GPUs, and XPUs exist simultaneously. Second, analog computing will show its advantages in specific fields. Photonic computing will be applied to signal processing, combinatorial optimization, machine learning, and other fields, especially for wireless Massive MIMO and optical communication fields will have great application scenarios.
