According to recent reports obtained from the Economic Daily News through supply chain channels, Apple is actively engaged in discussions with multiple suppliers to enhance the telephoto lens in the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro models, slated for release next year.
The company is purportedly seeking to integrate a more advanced glass lens module, aiming for a design that is thinner and lighter, resulting in a shorter lens. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the device’s optical zoom capabilities. However, the production process for these new lenses is noted to be more complex, leading to potential constraints in the initial stages of production. As a result, the upgraded telephoto lens may be the primary focus during the early stages of manufacturing.
Recent reports suggest that Apple has dispatched representatives to visit Hoya, a multinational optical instrument manufacturer based in Japan. Hoya’s diverse product line spans photomasks, semiconductor equipment, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and optical glass, making it one of the prominent global producers of lenses.

The media speculates that the enhanced telephoto lens may lead to increased manufacturing costs, potentially resulting in a higher retail price for the iPhone 16 Pro models. This cost increment may be transferred to consumers, indicating a possible price hike for the upcoming devices.
Furthermore, earlier revelations by Digital Chat Station indicated that Apple is contemplating incorporating a specific set of configurations in the iPhone 16 Pro series. These configurations may include a 1/1.14″± outsole, a 1MG + 7P molded glass molding module, and a periscope ultra-telephoto combination, possibly signaling a significant leap in the device’s photographic capabilities.
