OPPO Ray-tracing Dynamic Wallpapers
In today’s morning, OPPO in the Game Developers Conference (GDC) officially launched OPPO Ray-tracing 3D dynamic real-time interactive wallpapers. The wallpapers are the first time in the smartphone side of the implementation of Ray-tracing technology landing, which is expected in the second half of 2022 on the software application store.
At the moment, OPPO has 3 wallpapers for us, which are expected to be available on the app store in the second half of the year, supporting developers, artists, designers, and other free creation. Which wallpaper effect do you like the most? Check out the video below:
The application of ray tracing technology on cell phones has gradually become one of the most cutting-edge development directions of Ray-tracing technology. 2021, OPPO took the lead in the Reno6 PRO Dimensity1200 version of the Call of Duty handheld game scene ray tracing technology demonstration.
This year at GDC, OPPO Ray-tracing tracking technology was upgraded again, demonstrating light tracking 3D dynamic wallpaper, which can drive more complex scenes and higher-order effects through technical algorithm optimization, allowing the light tracking operation efficiency to double.

Compared to the previous generation of Ray-tracing technology, OPPO used the arithmetic power of the chip, self-researched BVH solution, and effect rendering algorithm optimization to achieve the refraction effect in the wallpaper that was not available last year.
At the same time, the Ray-tracing technology, using a hybrid rendering approach, can simultaneously achieve a variety of light rendering effects: refraction, shadows, reflections, as well as the arithmetic power requirements of the transparent body light refraction effect.
The current 3D dynamic wallpapers in the mobile industry are mainly rendered offline and are pre-made MP4 videos. The dynamic rendering of wallpapers is done by playing pre-recorded videos, which lacks interactivity with mobile users and the effect is not realistic enough.
This time, the Ray-tracing wallpaper is rendered in real-time, through the gyroscope and Ray-tracing technology, users can interact with the screen, rotate and move the phone, etc., to experience different gestures to bring the change of light and shadow on the wallpaper.
The OPPO Ray-tracing Dynamic Wallpaper App is scheduled to go live in the second half of 2022, and users can download it from the OPPO App Store and enable the Ray-tracing feature on select models.
At the same time, the wallpaper function will also be in the form of SDK, an online OPPO open platform, providing developers, artists, designers, and other free creation, SDK will support the independent design of light chasing wallpaper, support light source design, light effect customization, and other play.
The SDK will support the independent design of 3D dynamic wallpapers with light source design and customization of light effects. The Ray-tracing 3D dynamic wallpaper is one of OPPO’s many attempts to implement light tracking technology, and will also cover multiple directions for games and non-games in the future.
