Four Upgrades that the MacBook Pro 2022 may Receive
According to Apple’s usual practice, after a product receives a significant design upgrade, the subsequent several products tend to receive smaller updates, and recently, MacRumors followed this practice and made a series of predictions about the hardware upgrades that the MacBook Pro 2022 may receive in the future.
MacRumors believes that the MacBook Pro series will be upgraded in four directions: biometrics, display, networking, and chips, as follows.
Face ID
While Apple executives say Touch ID is more convenient on the MacBook Pro, sources say Apple has been working on introducing Face ID to the Mac for some time. Apple reportedly initially planned to introduce Face ID on the 24-inch iMac in 2021, but the feature was pushed back to a later iteration of the model.
M2 Pro and M2 Max
The M2 Pro and M2 Max will presumably take over from Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max custom chips. Just as the M1 Pro and M1 Max are enhanced versions of the M1 chip, the M2 Pro and M2 Max are likely to be based on the M2 chip.
The M2 chip is expected to debut in the redesigned MacBook Air in 2022. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the chip will have the same 8-core CPU as the M1, and it is expected to have additional GPU cores with 9-core and 10-core GPU options, up from the 7-core and 8-core GPU options in the original M1 chip.
Dual-layer OLED screen
Sources have reported that Apple is developing dual-layer OLED screens for a variety of future devices, including the MacBook Pro model, which can be up to twice as bright as the existing screen.
5G connectivity
According to Bloomberg’s Gurman, Apple has developed underlying Mac support for cellular connectivity. Sources say Apple may be the first to add this feature to the next-generation MacBook Air, and it could eventually be added to the MacBook Pro. Apple currently relies on Qualcomm, but it’s working on its custom modem that could come to the iPhone as soon as 2023.
MacRumors also mentioned in the report that Apple is expected to release the next-generation MacBook Pro in mid-to-late 2022 or early 2023, when we may see a transformed masterpiece.
