OnePlus Brings Hasselblad XPAN Mode to OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro
Earlier in August, Liu Fengshuo, COO of OnePlus, said that the cooperation between OnePlus and Hasselblad was absolutely impossible to be a label and that something good would come in September. At the time, it seemed obvious that this good thing was strongly associated with the OnePlus and Hasselblad imaging system, which enhances the imaging experience.
Today, co-developed by OnePlus and Hasselblad Imaging Team, bring a Hasselblad XPan wide format camera. OnePlus 9 Pro and 9, have been arranged one after another, to bring a kind of ritual and story-filled photography experience to mobile phones.
Since its release, the Hasselblad Imaging System has been well received by photography enthusiasts and users. Hasselblad Natural Color Optimization makes it easy to take photos with rich natural colors; Hasselblad Pro Mode leaves more room for professional users to play. The Hasselblad XPAN is the perfect continuation of the Hasselblad Imaging System, which will become the most storytelling camera in your hands.

What is XPan mode? XPan Mode is a cell phone photo model jointly developed by the OnePlus Imaging team and the Hasselblad camera team, which is inspired by a unique camera, the Hasselblad XPan. The XPan camera is a milestone product for Hasselblad. The unique 65:24 wide frame ratio, record life, storytelling, and sense of ritual can not be missing.
An important reason why it is called unique is that the Hasselblad XPan uses a 65:24 wide frame ratio, which, together with 135 films, enables a full-frame 24mm focal length field of view, corresponding to the 45mm focal length of the XPan at this time, allowing considerable control over the depth of field of the image.
At the same time, in the ultra-wide frame, we can also understand it as “ultra-long”, recording more complete information about the scene, which makes this kind of photo has a unique temperament, rather than post-cropping or stretching can be achieved. Of course, this also sets the stage for the dissipation that follows.
Nowadays in the mass consumer market, film photography is not a popular way to take pictures. So on the OnePlus 9 series, the XPan mode replicates the special Hasselblad XPan photo approach, from wide frame framing, color mode, and then focal length selection, in a sense completing the digitization of the Hasselblad XPan camera, plus the unique shutter sound at the end, quite a sense of ceremony.
In this mode, users have a choice of two classic focal lengths, 30mm and 45mm, both of which invoke the ultra-wide-angle camera and the main camera, respectively, with the former better suited for oversized landscapes and the latter more suitable for street sweeping, portraits, cities and other human scenes.
Incidentally, as OnePlus introduced in the first half of this year, the ultra-wide-angle camera of the OnePlus 9 series is 50 megapixels and equipped with free-form lenses to prevent edge distortion, while the main camera is both 48 megapixels, especially the main camera of the OnePlus 9 Pro uses IMX789 CMOS for better imaging results. This allows the two focal lengths to take photos with a guaranteed look and clarity.
But due to its own 65:24 ultra-wide format, whichever focal length is chosen, it can accommodate richer scene information. As a comparison, the phone’s default viewfinder ratio is 4:3 or 16:9, which shows how wide it is.
It is also worth noting that the color style of the XPan mode is different from the default mode. It defaults to black and white and can be switched to color by clicking the “film” icon button.
In addition, because X Pan is a product of the film era, the process of film photo processing, i.e. photo-negative-processing-developing, is also reproduced, which is why you need to wait for 1 to 2 seconds after taking a photo in this mode to see the finished film, which is quite well reproduced. This also predestines XPan to be a slow-paced photo mode, which is relatively suitable for creative work. If you want fast imaging, the default mode is still the best choice.
The Black and white film mode story, at the moment the shutter is pressed, retained. Regardless of visual presentation or emotional capture. Can be expressed with high-grade and comfortable black and white film texture.
XPan is an extension of the imaging capabilities of the OnePlus 9 series. Whether or not it can be taken to a level depends on the joint tuning level of OnePlus and Hasselblad, and of course, it can’t be done without the arithmetic support provided by Snapdragon 888.
