Highlights: OnePlus X Hasselblad Partnership, Sony IMX 789, 140° Wide Angle and Several Hasselblad Core Technologies For Upcoming OnePlus 9 Series
In today’s OnePlus X Hasselblad joint event, the OnePlus announced the OnePlus 9 Series, created by OnePlus together with Hasselblad, will be officially released on March 23, and the machine will debut the Hasselblad’s core photography technologies with featuring Hasselblad logo on the back of the device.
OnePlus X Hasselblad Partnership
Besides, OnePlus held an OnePlus image exchange meeting today, announcing that OnePlus will enter into a three-year partnership with Hasselblad and that this year will be the “Year of OnePlus Photography”. OnePlus said that to bring Hasselblad imaging to the cell phone field, the two sides have conducted deep cooperation, and now OnePlus has established four major imaging R&D centers around the world and will invest 1 billion in R&D over 3 years to create the ultimate imaging experience, and imaging will become an important part of OnePlus’ product strategy.
What is the image that OnePlus understands? Images are the tools that people use to capture the images in their minds. Behind the images are the people who record them and the tools they use. From the darkroom processing in the film era to the digital camera in the early 21st century to the new era of computational photography today, people use smartphones to record the beauty, just press the shutter, and leave the rest to the AI calculation behind – image, no more threshold!
OnePlus Image Small Goal: The perfect fusion of art and technology: In traditional photography, photographers patiently adjust the relationship between light, shadow, and color to get a good photo, and accumulate a lot of deep understanding of images. Based on this, we set ourselves a small goal – to integrate the profound aesthetic accumulation from traditional photography into highly intelligent computational photography to form an imaging system with the ultimate image quality.
When OnePlus was first established, we had a small goal: to make the best Android phone that we were satisfied with. In the past few years, we have taken practical actions to achieve the ultimate in hand feel and screen experience, leading the industry in the pursuit of hand feel and screen high frame direction. This year, we will fully focus on the image, the pursuit of the ultimate image experience.

Hasselblad is a high-quality film camera manufacturer located in Gothenburg, Sweden, founded in 1841, and made its fortune during the 1880s and World War II when its Victor Hasselblad was appointed as an imperial aerial camera for the Swedish Royal Air Force and became widely known after the end of World War II when it entered the civilian market. Besides, Hasselblad is best known for the Apollo moon landing program, when almost all the photos were taken by Hasselblad retrofit cameras.
Jon Diele, Vice President of Hasselblad, said that Hasselblad has always been committed to bringing the most reliable creative tools to photographers with the belief of “Create to Inspire”. Through this partnership, he hopes to bring Hasselblad’s iconic design concept and the ultimate image experience to more mobile device users, blending superior performance with the beauty of technology to lead the mobile industry into the next chapter with a new smartphone photography system.
Hasselblad Ambassador and famous photographer, Yin Chao, brought two special gifts! One is two photos taken by Yin Chao using an OnePlus phone equipped with the “OnePlus X Hasselblad Mobile Imaging System”. The other is a limited edition Hasselblad 907 X 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing, commissioned by Jon Diele, Vice President of Hasselblad, and presented to OnePlus. Inspired by the Hasselblad HEC camera that landed on the moon, it is a message of continued exploration and innovation in the field of imaging!
We’ve redesigned many of the camera’s features to give you a more ritualistic shooting experience. When you press the shutter, it’s a mechanical sound that’s been turned over and over again, unique to the Hasselblad mirror shutter. We’ve also added a new style of camera watermark that will add just the right amount of texture to your photos.

OnePlus announced several imaging technologies jointly developed with Hasselblad
In addition to the cooperation with Hasselblad, OnePlus also announced several imaging technologies, namely 140° ultra-wide matrix camera, free-form lens, human eye bionic focus, and Sony IMX789 sensor.
Hasselblad Natural Color Optimization
The official announcement is that “Hasselblad Natural Color Optimization”, jointly created by OnePlus and Hasselblad, enables every photo to have a natural and comfortable color performance. In addition to the joint debugging launched by the OnePlus Imaging Lab and the Hasselblad camera team, this rigorous set of standards was further debugged and optimized by taking realistic and complex scenes in collaboration with three of the world’s top Hasselblad ambassadors. The ultimate color blockbuster is now available in a single shot.
Hasselblad Pro Mode
OnePlus introduces the powerful Hasselblad Pro Mode, built for professional users. In addition to the flexibility to adjust a variety of parameters such as shutter speed, sensitivity, and white balance, the Peak Focus function allows for fast and precise focusing and the ability to take RAW format photos with 12-bit color depth, capturing up to 68.7 billion colors, 64 times more than the common 10-bit color depth. The result is a huge post-processing space and more delicate and smooth color transitions in photos.
140-degree ultra-wide matrix camera
OnePlus imaging innovation team has brought “140-degree ultra-wide matrix camera” technology, which has a camera structure consisting of two wide-angle cameras and a triple prism. The two cameras are synchronized to produce a 140-degree wide panoramic photo with almost no distortion. All this is achieved with a simple press of the shutter.
Human Eye Bionic Focus
OnePlus phones support human-eye bionic focus. This sci-fi-like technology is inspired by the human eye. It reduces autofocus response to 1 millisecond, 5-10 times faster than traditional cameras. The closest focusing distance is reduced to 15 cm, and it is possible to focus at a very close distance even when shaking. It also reduces the internal footprint and front camera aperture. Thanks to this technology, the front-facing camera will be able to take portraits and backgrounds almost simultaneously and combine them into a full-focus photo.
Free-form lens
The ultra-wide-angle allows for a wide field of view but is prone to aberrations, such as curved lines on buildings. Compared to aspheric lenses, which can cause aberrations of up to 10-20 percent, OnePlus claims that the “free-form” technology reduces this to a near-negligible 1 percent, virtually eliminating the aberrations of ultra-wide angles.
Sony IMX789
OnePlus has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to create the IMX789 sensor. This is the most expensive custom sensor ever built by OnePlus. In addition to dual native ISO, all-pixel omnidirectional focus technology, and real-time HDR video capture, the Sony IMX789 will also provide a 4K 120 fps video capture experience. The larger sensor area allows for greater light intake and better image quality, whether taking photos or videos. As well as DOL- HDR technology to bring more pure image quality performance, backlight scenes more natural and rich in detail.
