Recently, MediaTek held a press conference and announced several chip products. The new products are the MediaTek 700, a 5G chip for smartphones, and the MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets for next-generation Chromebooks.

The MediaTek MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets are for next-generation Chromebooks, using 7nm and 6nm processes, respectively. The MediaTek MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets integrate a high-performance AI processing unit (APU) to power a variety of voice and vision-based applications. Enhanced performance such as noise reduction, image, and video segmentation, and gesture control. Both chipsets feature a dedicated audio digital signal processor (DSP) that enables ultra-low-power voice wake-up (VoW) for voice assistants.

The chipset’s built-in High Dynamic Range (HDR) image signal processor and hardware depth-of-field engine allow manufacturers to design Chromebooks with a variety of camera configurations, giving device makers the option of incorporating a large 80 megapixel’s quad-sensor (Cell) camera, a 32MP pixel single camera, or a dual camera with up to 16MP + 16MP pixels. Camera setup to enable sharp, crisp HDR videoconferencing in Chromebooks.

The MediaTek MT8195 is based on TSMC’s 6nm process with an integrated octa-core CPU that includes four Arm Cortex-A78s for compute-intensive applications and four energy-efficient Arm Cortex-A55s that can simultaneously handle background tasks and maximize battery life. APU 3.0 delivers up to 4 TOPs of performance. The powerful quad-core Arm-Mali G57 GPU delivers great visuals, while the quad-channel 2133MHz LPDDR4X ensures that the power core has plenty of memory bandwidth.

With support for Dolby Vision, 7.1 surround sound audio, and codec AV1 hardware video accelerator, users can enjoy a cinema-quality streaming movie, TV, and movie experience from the most popular online services. Also, AV1 hardware decoding uses less data while delivering superior graphics and a smooth video experience.

The MediaTek MT8192 integrates an octa-core CPU including four Arm Cortex-A76 cores and four Arm Cortex-A55 for an ideal balance of power consumption and efficiency. MediaTek’s APU 2.0 provides the MT8192 with a maximum performance of up to 2.4 TOPs. The chipset also features a powerful quintuple-core Arm-G57 GPU for outstanding visuals, 2133MHz LPDDR4x, and UFS 2.1 storage. Besides, the chipset can support up to two Full HD displays simultaneously. Besides, the MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets also support PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1.
