Deep collaboration between the host file system and UFS is critical for the best storage experience. This includes Xiaomi’s intervention in UFS resource management, focusing on reducing unnecessary data writing and migration to ensure better wear-leveling and WAF.

With UltraSpace Storage Expansion, users of the Xiaomi 14 Pro (256GB) now gain an additional 8GB of space, while those with the 512GB Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro enjoy an extra 16GB. The integration of this feature requires calibration during phone production, making it unfeasible for older models to support it.
While UltraSpace is presently available on specific devices, Xiaomi is actively pursuing partnerships and industry standards, aiming to include UltraSpace in the UFS 4.1 specification. The company has already submitted the USP proposal to the JEDEC International Semiconductor Standards Association organization, underscoring its dedication to making this cutting-edge technology an industry standard.
