MediaTek and Vivo Collaborate to Advance AI in Smartphones
In a recent announcement, MediaTek, a prominent player in semiconductor technology, unveiled a strategic partnership with Vivo, a leading smartphone manufacturer, to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in smartphones. The collaboration focuses on the development and implementation of AI models at an unprecedented scale, revolutionizing user experiences on Vivo devices.
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the deployment of 1B and 7B AI big language models and a 1B AI vision big model directly on the terminal side (On-device Generative AI). MediaTek’s powerful Dimensity mobile chip, specifically the Dimensity 9300, is set to empower Vivo’s latest flagship phones, particularly the Vivo X100 Series, making them pioneers in carrying end-side AI models.

The significance of hosting these generative AI models on the device itself lies in enhanced user data security, improved real-time performance, and the creation of personalized user experiences. This approach not only safeguards sensitive user information but also ensures that AI-driven functions are more responsive and tailored to individual preferences.
MediaTek’s new generation flagship AI processor APU and AI development platform NeuroPilot are at the core of this collaboration. They promise to boost the operational efficiency of these AI models on the terminal side, delivering substantial AI computing power and performance. As a result, Vivo users can expect more powerful, efficient, and personalized AI experiences on their smartphones.
Notably, this is not the only collaboration of its kind that MediaTek has announced. They have also revealed a similar partnership with OPPO, demonstrating their commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology in smartphones.
Vivo Shares OriginOS 4 AI Creations
To provide a glimpse of what’s to come, Vivo’s Vice President of OS Products shared AI-generated images on Weibo. These creations are an early preview of the capabilities that will be showcased at the upcoming Vivo Developer Conference on November 1, 2023. OriginOS 4, with its self-research large model, can produce a wide range of painting styles, including distinct Chinese characteristics. It excels in creating realistic Chinese characters and capturing the style of real photography.

This collaboration between MediaTek and Vivo promises to bring about a new era of AI-driven capabilities in smartphones. By deploying AI models directly on the device, users can anticipate more secure, responsive, and personalized AI experiences, all while enjoying the creative and artistic potential of AI in their devices. With the Vivo Developer Conference on the horizon, it’s an exciting time for smartphone enthusiasts and AI technology enthusiasts alike.
