Apple has taken a strategic step to promote its applications with the recent launch of a dedicated website called “Apps by Apple.” This initiative comes in response to the European Union’s Digital Marketplace Act (DMA), which is set to enable third-party app sideloading on devices like the iPhone across 27 EU member states, excluding the UK.
The “Apps by Apple” website showcases a diverse range of applications developed by Apple for its product ecosystem, including the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV. These apps have been thoughtfully categorized into seven main sections:
- Communications: Featuring essential apps like Phone, Messages, FaceTime, Mail, and Contacts to help users stay connected.
- Creative: Tailored for professionals and creative enthusiasts, this category includes apps like Photos, Camera, iMovie, and Final Cut Pro (on iPad).
- Productivity: Offering a suite of tools for efficient work, including Notes, Reminders, Calendar, Freeform, and Pages.
- Explore: Providing apps like Safari, Maps, Weather, Find Me, and Wallet for seamless navigation and discovery.
- Entertainment and Home: Encompassing entertainment-focused apps like Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple Music Classical, and Podcasts.
- Health & Fitness: Offering apps such as Apple Health, Fitness, Workout, Sleep, and Cycle Tracking to promote a healthy lifestyle.
- Features: Siri, iCloud, CarPlay, Continuity and Family Sharing, and Augmented Reality.

It’s worth noting that the DMA has opened the door to third-party app sideloading in the 27 EU member states, but regions beyond this scope are yet to adopt this practice. The UK, which is not an EU member state, remains unaffected by these changes.
