Xiaomi’s much-anticipated folding flagship, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, is set to make its official debut tomorrow evening. The company’s focus on thinness, durability, and imaging excellence has led to the incorporation of cutting-edge technology in various aspects of the device. Xiaomi has confirmed that the MIX Fold 3 will feature the Leica Optical Full Focal Length Quad-camera system, elevating its imaging capabilities.
Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, recently shared an insightful article detailing the exceptional Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 battery endurance. The MIX Fold 3 showcases a series of groundbreaking advancements in battery technology, management, and screen efficiency. This comprehensive approach towards battery life has resulted in impressive longevity for the folding screen device.
One of the key highlights is the introduction of the Xiaomi Surge Battery, featuring two individual cells. Both batteries utilize the latest silicon-carbon negative electrode technology, boasting higher energy density compared to silicon-oxygen technology. These ultra-thin Surge batteries, one measuring just 2.45mm thick, play a pivotal role in achieving the device’s remarkable thinness while delivering prolonged battery life. Through the integration of silicon carbon anode technology and meticulous management using the Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System, the battery capacity has been boosted by 10%, further minimizing power consumption.
To enhance the battery management process, Xiaomi has incorporated three Xiaomi Surge chips that collectively constitute the Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System. The Xiaomi Surge G1 chip accurately calculates battery discharge data and employs a parallel design to reduce energy loss. The battery management system employs a system-level discharge control algorithm, aligned with the characteristics of the silicon carbon-negative battery, ensuring extended battery life. Continuous battery health monitoring further contributes to prolonged durability.
Recognizing that battery technology alone isn’t sufficient for exceptional endurance, Xiaomi has addressed screen power consumption through innovative solutions. The 8.03-inch display of the MIX Fold 3 showcases a series of advancements in power efficiency. The integration of technologies such as Pol-less Plus low-power display technology, E6 light-emitting material, LTPO multi-shift dynamic refresh rate, partition independent refresh rate, and refined screen IC process optimization collectively enable a significant reduction in power consumption. The internal screen life of the MIX Fold 3 is shown to be 52% longer than its predecessor using a standardized 500nit white chart, highlighting the device’s low-power internal screen prowess.
The culmination of these advancements has resulted in the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 boasting extraordinary endurance that surpasses expectations. With an outer screen DOU (Device On and Used) endurance of up to 1.34 days and an equally impressive 8.03-inch inner screen DOU, the device defies the norms of thin and light folding flagships.
