Google Pixel 8 Series Camera Sensors
Android Authority has recently revealed the camera specifications of the highly anticipated Google Pixel 8 Series. In a departure from the previous four years, Google is upgrading its main camera sensor to the Samsung ISOCELL GN2, replacing the GN1. This upgrade promises a 35% improvement in light intake compared to its predecessor. The enhanced sensor will enable brighter images, faster shutter speeds, and reduced blur, delivering an overall improved photography experience.

The ISOCELL GN2 sensor in the Pixel 8 series also supports 8K/30fps video capture. Coupled with the new Tensor G3 processor, the camera capabilities of the Pixel 8 are expected to be significantly enhanced. Google has invested heavily in computational photography, ensuring that the new series will excel in camera performance.
The Pixel 8 camera will also introduce support for Staggered HDR, a technology that reduces latency between HDR frames, resulting in faster shooting. This advancement is expected to further elevate Google’s renowned HDR+ capabilities, providing users with a quicker and more reliable shooting experience.
Notably, the Google Pixel 8 Pro stands out with its upgrade from the 12MP Sony IMX386 to the impressive 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor. This substantial enhancement, particularly for ultra-wide angles, offers a sensor size almost twice as large, promising a remarkable improvement in image quality.

While the camera software for the Pixel 8 series is still in the early stages of development, the focus has primarily been on adapting to the new hardware. However, several new enhancements to basic features are expected. These include Adaptive Flash, which intelligently adjusts flash intensity based on the scene, and “Segment AWB,” which utilizes AI to selectively apply different processing to specific parts of the image by segmenting the current scene. Furthermore, Google may incorporate a video blur level selection feature into the camera’s movie mode.
The Google Pixel 8 series is poised to deliver an outstanding camera experience to users, with impressive hardware upgrades, advanced computational photography capabilities, and innovative software enhancements. As Google continues to refine its camera technology, users can look forward to capturing stunning images and videos with the upcoming Pixel 8 devices.
