Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 Specs List

Qualcomm is set to launch its latest Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 chipset for notebooks, codenamed Hamoa, in 2024. The chip is expected to surpass Apple’s M series chipsets, and it has already been internally tested by Qualcomm with promising results.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 will feature up to 8 high-performance cores clocked at 3.4GHz and 4 energy-efficiency cores clocked at 2.5GHz. These cores will be based on the custom Nuvia Phoenix-based Oryon cores. Qualcomm will test multiple combinations of designs before confirming sales to notebook manufacturers.

Each of the 4 cores of the chip is a block, and each block has 12 MB of L2 shared cache, providing a total of 36 MB of L2 cache. Additionally, the chip will feature 8MB of L3 cache, 12MB of system-level cache, and 4MB of GPU cache.

In terms of memory, the SoC will support up to 64GB of 8-channel LPDDR5X RAM at 4200 MHz. This will provide ample memory for multitasking and running resource-intensive applications.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 will also feature a powerful Adreno 740 GPU, brought from the Snapdragon 8 Gen2. This GPU will support DirectX 12, OpenCL, DirectML, and Vulkan 1.3 libraries. It will also be able to drive two 4K displays and one 5K display at the same time, for a total of three displays.

The chip will also support 4K@120 FPS decoding and 4K@60 FPS encoding using the AV1 codec. This will make it an ideal choice for video editing, just like Apple’s M chips. Additionally, the chip will support an add-on stand-alone GPU via PCIe 4.0.

In terms of AI performance, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will feature the more powerful Hexagon Tensor NPU, which delivers up to 45 TOPS of theoretical AI performance. Qualcomm is working with Microsoft and Adobe to make AI acceleration more useful on Windows, which will make the chip more versatile and powerful.

Finally, the chip will support NVMe, UFS 4.0, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and DisplayPort 1.4a. It will also support Wi-Fi 7 and the communication module will be the Snapdragon X65.

All in all, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 specifications list promises to be a powerful and versatile chipset that will set a new standard for notebooks. With its high-performance cores, ample memory, and powerful GPU, it will be able to handle the most demanding applications and multitask with ease. Additionally, its AI capabilities and support for add-on GPU will make it an ideal choice for professionals and power users.
