MIUI 14 New Features and Upgrade Roadmap
With the release of the Xiaomi 13 Series, the new MIUI 14 system was also unveiled simultaneously. One of the goals of MIUI 14 is to “make the most streamlined and lightweight flagship phone system”.

To this end, the MIUI team carried out the razor plan to significantly streamline the system storage, system memory, and pre-installed applications, while solving the problem of bloated three-party applications.
Compared with MIUI 13, MIUI 14 takes up 1.5GB less system space, 3.3GB less system memory, 12% fewer boot processes, and only 8 uninstallable applications. To address the problem of bloated three-party applications, MIUI 14 introduces low-frequency application compression and duplicate file cleaning to intelligently free up storage space; at the same time, it supports one-slide closure of resident notifications, to say goodbye to the persistent problem of “psoriasis” notifications.

Streamlining is only a means, smooth and power saving is what users are most concerned about. Based on the core technology breakthrough of the operating system, MIUI 14 introduces the new MIUI Photon Engine architecture – an operation on the underlying kernel of Android, which deeply optimizes the system architecture and resource scheduling mechanism, bringing a new system experience.
MIUI 14 is more responsive and has a lower frame rate than before for high-frequency operations such as unlocking, viewing notifications, and using applications under heavy load scenarios.
MIUI14 opens up the photon engine capability and conducts in-depth joint tuning with head application developers to create Android’s leading three-party application experience: whether it is brushing WeChat’s circle of friends, Weibo, or Tiktok, MIUI 14 is not only smooth but also more power-saving. The power consumption of brushing Weibo and Tiktok can be reduced by 16% and 22% respectively. Now there are many head applications connected to MIUI Photon Engine.
Relying on Xiaomi’s deep technical accumulation in the core of the system, the basic experience of MIUI14 has been reborn: the dual-pronged approach of Project Razor and MIUI Photon Engine brings users a lighter, smoother, and more power-saving experience.
Like Xiaomi 12 Series shipped with MIUI 13, Xiaomi 13 series will also be shipped with the latest MIUI 14 – soft and hard synergies that work together to bring users a refreshed and superior experience.
