Snapdragon 6 Gen1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen1

Yesterday evening, Qualcomm quietly released the Snapdragon 6 Gen1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen1 mobile platforms. Both chips are aimed at the mid-range and entry smartphone markets, and offer upgrades in imaging, connectivity, entertainment, and AI in their respective product tiers.

Snapdragon 6 Gen1

The Snapdragon 6 Gen1 mobile platform delivers long-lasting and stable range and performance, enabling rich experiences. The platform supports triple ISP, which enables simultaneous colorful images from three cameras at billion-pixel-per-second processing speeds.

It is also the first Snapdragon 6-series platform to support a single-frame progressive HDR image sensor, allowing users to capture up to 108 megapixels and support computational HDR video capture.

The SD 6 Gen1 features the seventh-generation Qualcomm AI engine, which improves AI performance by up to three times compared to previous-generation platforms and fully empowers AI-based activity tracking and other intelligent assistance features.

Powerful gaming features enable the 6 Gen1 to deliver up to 35 percent faster graphics rendering and up to 40 percent faster processing, resulting in a superior entertainment experience with real-time response and HD visuals while supporting ultra-smooth HDR gaming at 60+ fps.

The platform features the Snapdragon X62 5G modem and RF system, capable of supporting the 3GPP Release 16 5G specification and peak 5G download speeds of up to 2.9Gbps for broad global connectivity coverage. It is also the first Snapdragon 6 Series platform to feature Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6700 mobile connectivity system, capable of supporting 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E.

Snapdragon 4 Gen1

The Snapdragon 4 Gen1 is the first 6nm Snapdragon 4 Series mobile platform that delivers great performance and multi-day battery life. It delivers up to 15 percent higher CPU performance and 10 percent higher GPU performance than previous-generation platforms, supporting users to multitask smoothly and enjoy immersive entertainment.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen1 features advanced imaging technology with triple ISP and support for multi-frame noise reduction to capture crisp, detailed photos. Users can also take photos up to 108 megapixels, which is the best imaging feature the Snapdragon 4 series can achieve.

At the same time, Qualcomm AI leads to a more seamless, intuitive end-side experience. With echo and background noise suppression, users can get instant support or make clear voice calls with an always-on voice assistant.

Not only that, but the Snapdragon X515G modem and RF system used in the Snapdragon 4 Gen1 is capable of supporting ultra-fast 5G peak download speeds of 2.5Gbps, while the Qualcomm FastConnect 6200 can easily support top-tier 2×2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Finally, the Snapdragon 6 Gen1 commercial devices are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2023, model unknown, and the Snapdragon 4 Gen1 commercial devices are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2022, model iQOO Z6 Lite.
