iPhone 14 Pro AOD Display
Although there are still nearly two months until the release of the iPhone 14 Series phones. But news about these phones keeps explored in meantime. Recently, 9to5Mac has discovered several references to the iPhone 14 Pro AOD display in iOS 16, and there’s even an internal mode for Apple to test the Always On Display in the iPhone itself.
For example, Apple has recently added a dynamic light and dark wallpaper in the latest Beta 4 version of iOS 16 with the Always On Display function. Which is considered to be the actual hammer that the iPhone 14 Series will join the AOD display.
In addition, Apple has added a “sleep” mode to the iPhone 14 Pro’s wallpaper, which allows the wallpaper to reduce the brightness and contrast to save power. 9to5mac also published a demo video with iPhone 13 series to show the feature, which can be seen, the feature allows the wallpaper will darken and fade, but will not disappear completely, and Android only displays the date/time as completely different.
As illustrated in the demonstration video, this time the always-on display seems to be similar to Apple Watch’s constant brightness display. Which can be adjusted through brightness contrast, combined with the ultra-low refresh rate of 1Hz, to achieve a constant brightness that does not affect the battery life level at all.
But it should be noted that this also means that the new AOD rest screen display will most likely be an LTPO screen iPhone 14 Pro exclusive feature, only the Pro series of screens can support a 1Hz display. As for the iPhone 14 standard version of the two, as equipped with still only support 60Hz low refresh rate screen, can not get this feature.
Not surprisingly, Apple will likely release the iPhone 14 series around September, as it has in previous years, but only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to have ProMotion and AOD, but this flagship feature will certainly be rolled out to standard models in a future year.
