Chrome M99 Speed Test
Recently, the Google Chrome team published a post on the Chromium blog that the latest version of Chrome M99 in Apple’s Speedometer network benchmark test created the highest record of 300 points.
Meanwhile, it is 7% faster than the Safari browser on the Mac, and Chrome is 43% faster than it was 17 months ago since Chrome was launched on M1-based Macs in late 2020.
Speedometer is said to be a web responsive testing tool developed by Apple’s WebKit team, simulating various interactions between users and web pages.
It is worth mentioning that since it is a testing tool produced by Apple WebKit, to a large extent, Safari’s runtime score will be ahead, so Chrome surpasses this time with milestone significance.
The Google team says that the V8 Sparkplug compiler and short built-in calls are the two main reasons for the recent speed increase in Chrome. Sparkplug reportedly generates efficient code with low compilation overhead, and the V8 JavaScript engine improves performance by avoiding indirect jumps when calling functions.
It is worth noting that Chrome 99 will be the last double-digit version, Chrome 100 is already available in the development channel and will be released at the end of the month. In terms of security, Chrome M99 fixes 28 security vulnerabilities, 11 of which are high-risk vulnerabilities, 15 medium-risk vulnerabilities, and 2 low-risk vulnerabilities.
