Media: Why is the Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition not equipped with MariSilicon X?. What is the difference in image between the Dimensity Edition and the Find X5 Pro equipped with MariSilicon X?
Li Jie: The mass production of the Dimensity 9000 chip is much later than the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, and there is no way to cover the whole development progress, so we are forced to sacrifice the suspension anti-shake and self-developed MariSilicon X on the Dimensity 9000.
Because the Dimensity version does not have new stabilization, it is a little worse than the Pro in terms of photography, but we also have the self-developed ICE dynamic engine capture, capture ability is also very strong, but certainly with the Find X5 Pro version of the new stabilization performance differences. Self-developed Mariana X is only used on the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 platform, so like extreme night video and ultra-clear night video, there will be some differences between the two products.
Media: Will the Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition be competitive with OnePlus in terms of configuration and price?
Jie Li: Actually, we don’t discuss these two products together much internally. Our internal positioning of the two series is not quite the same. OnePlus is more oriented to young online users who like games and performance. Find X is more for urban white-collar workers, in fact, from the beginning of the user we have a distinction.
Media: OPPO is now launching a tablet, whether it is Xiaomi or Lenovo, there are certain actions in the pricing and adjustment of the product, which proves that the friends will generate some pressure. So I want to understand OPPO’s internal communication with the channel, sales, what kind of attitude they are, what kind of views have been given to OPPO?
Fan Hui: This time the price you can see, we are still relatively aggressive, we hope more to give our efforts to the user, feel our product design, but at the same time do not have to spend too much money, this is our original intention to provide the best experience for the user. We do not want to make too much money on this, but to give users to build a good tablet product concept to do.
Media: Many users are very much looking forward to the Dimensity 9000 chip, but it does not have suspension stabilization and MariSilicon X in the camera, and there is only one version or the version with the highest memory. how did OPPO consider making this trade-off?
Li Jie: What you want to ask is, why set such a high price right? We discussed this issue carefully for many rounds at the beginning of the project. We have strategic cooperation with MTK, and the largest number of chips from MTK throughout the year is OPPO, which has a very close relationship with MTK. In the early stages of defining this product, we communicated with MTK, how to position this product, whether to do within 3,000 yuan to rush or to do a Pro version, to do more than 5,500 yuan. We have deduced a lot of options.
A high-end breakthrough is the most important strategy for both OPPO and MTK.
As the first product to debut the Dimensity 9000, want to impact the high-end, must not be because of the rush or make the price low, resulting in product experience or reputation problems. Will higher magnification telephoto lenses be introduced in the next generation?

- about the relationship or division of labor between the Mariana chip and Qualcomm cooperation: to go back to the image processing chain to see, in the overall chain, Mariana is placed before the Snapdragon ISP, the RAW data from the sensor out of the Mariana processing, the next ISP take over, through the RAW, RGB, YUV a series of processing. The MariSilicon X can process and maximize the value of the RAW domain data in the most original and huge amount of data, such as AI noise reduction, HDR, etc.
- MariSilicon is not an ISP. Traditional ISPs deal with simple multi-frame compositing algorithms, but for deep learning and AI algorithm models, it is more difficult. MariSilicon X is an NPU, the AI computing power of this piece is stronger than the traditional ISP, there is a separate NPU module, we can put the AI algorithm on the RAW domain for processing.
- MariSilicon X also takes on the output of its 3A algorithm for the first time. 3A algorithm is the role of command in the image chain, overseeing focus, exposure, white balance, and so on, which is why MariSilicon X can collaborate with the lens, natural color sensor, and subsequent processing of ISP on Snapdragon.
The MariSilicon X chip supports up to 4K 30 fps video output. But the input side can support up to 60 fps of the original data because the night scene and HDR are two frames in one output, so the input is 4K + 60 fps input, after MariSilicon X and AI algorithm synthesis, to 30 fps output.

Media: Find X5 at 3999 yuan this starting price is not low, how to set this starting price? MariSilicon X is not yet perfectly debugged, what time can reach a better level? The life cycle of this chip is a few generations of products, a few years, is there any planning?
Li Jie: 3999 yuan price is very sincere, compared with the previous generation, the minimum price into the 4000 yuan range, in some invisible places, under the cost or a lot of. For example, only the appearance of the process has nine inspection procedures, including incoming material inspection, AI automated shooting inspection, and the final manual full inspection, the cost of this is invisible.
On the debugging of MariSilicon X, we will debug the product at the first OTA after the user gets it, which is a task we must achieve internally.
Secondly, we will use this self-developed chip for the next period, we actually do not have that much experience with self-developed chips. We know that many things can bring out the potential of the chip, such as many technical requirements, which are found to be achievable late in the development process, and our team will continue to explore and dig this chip.
Media: OPPO’s design of one machine with two cores will continue to be used?
Li Jie: I think it will be used for two to three years. I boldly judge that the one-computer dual-core will exist for many years to come. And I heard that industry friends have already done it, about the MariSilicon X practice, we are looking for custom chips. All are the same path because seeing a chipping capacity itself is not a strong general platform, coupled with customized NPU can bring a better image enhancement.
Media: OPPO released its first tablet at this point, in addition to the hope of expanding new categories as stated at the launch, does OPPO have a more in-depth layout?
Fan Hui: OPPO did a tablet ten years ago, and many media teachers may not know that the tablet did not hit the market because, after the prototype stage, we felt that the applied ecology and the experience we could provide to users at that time were not quite in line with OPPO’s brand tone, so that project was aborted. But that project incubated a very powerful technology – flash charging technology, which is an extension of our first tablet R&D project. We think there are several factors why we are doing the tablet again at this point.
First, you just mentioned that the tablet market has been booming in recent years, on the one hand, because of the epidemic, especially during the current epidemic, or the post-epidemic era, the tablet has become an indispensable tool for everyone’s life.
Second, now the Android ecosystem has gradually developed, more and more applications can be adapted to the tablet form, large screen, vertical screen, rotation, split-screen, multi-tasking in the continuous improvement. Including Google, from Android 12L onwards, also returned to the tablet ecology. I believe that under the leadership of Google, this ecology will become better and better in the future.
Third, OPPO’s strategy of integration of everything is becoming clearer and clearer. As Seven just said at the launch, it is our fifth smart screen, which is a very important link to our whole ecology, especially in terms of screen size, which is not replaceable by other products, so we choose this time to enter the tablet market.
Media: Our slogan is “one frame image, using two chips”, but if you use images or photos to see, users understand less intuitive, from the marketing point of view is how to consider?
Li Jie: In the past, OPPO gave people a feeling of marketing, feeling that we are very good at packaging selling points and shooting ads. But now is the era of information bombing, including you want to go to the high-end this alone is not enough. There is another big change in our marketing, like the slogan of Find N: “from fresh to commonly used”, and now the Find X5 series, including “one image using two chips”, are not quite the same as the previous marketing. We put more emphasis on the product and technology itself so that you can understand the product intent in one sentence, or have a heartwarming feeling.
Media: In which scenarios will MariSilicon X work? Does it work as long as the camera is enabled? Or will it be enabled only when you turn on AI or shoot a 4K video?
Joanne Chen: Just now, I mentioned the working mechanism of MariSilicon X. The core is the RAW domain pre-processing, and the self-developed 3A algorithm running on MariSilicon X. Because the 3A algorithm is the brain of the whole image. Because the 3A algorithm is the brain and foundation of the whole image, it will have a certain effect on the whole image.
Media: What is the difference between OPPO’s suspension anti-shake and friendly anti-shake technology? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Chen Qionglin: The biggest difference between the two is the huge difference in the structure itself. The industry’s mainstream anti-shake technology is mainly a two-axis OIS on the lens, OPPO’s suspension anti-shake with lateral displacement, vertical displacement, and rotation, the three axes of movement packaged, to compensate for more axial, forming a complete suspension anti-shake system, the overall bring the original 3 times the anti-shake performance, stable exposure time from the original without OIS 1/30 seconds to 1/2 second. The next is the difference in performance.
Media: Now that OPPO has only used 30% of the Mariana X development, I would like to ask if it will continue to develop its potential on the Find X5 next? For example, if users buy it now, the potential of Mariana X is 30%, will it reach 40% as well as 50% after six months? Similar to the new energy car, first give the hardware, software OTA slowly optimize, will the subsequent development of the product in this way to make it stronger and stronger?
Jie Li: We will continue to develop the functions of Mariana X and upgrade them. It may not be realistic to say that it is self-upgrading. But during the debugging process, I often heard the imaging engineer say one thing, I asked him, how this problem has not been solved? He said, “We’re waiting for the Marianas X model. I asked him, “What are you waiting for? He said, don’t you know it’s an NPU? It has a lot of algorithm tuning, and our previous tuning with the general-purpose chip platform is different, now many algorithms are AI, have added deep learning, you have to let the Mariana X with neural network to learn and computing. This bug according to the original OPPO way, the image of the bug must be solved after three days, but not with Mariana X, because running algorithms, running models to run three days. Of course, I do not know much about the real depth of computing in this, but from this phenomenon to see, it will upgrade. Now our data volume is still based on the previous products to do, Find X5 series of products on the market, there is more feedback in, it will become better and better.
