Xiaomi 12 Disassembling

In today’s morning, Xiaomi cell phone officially releases Xiaomi 12 disassembling video, note that it is Xiaomi 12, not Xiaomi 12 Pro. Open the back cover and what catches your eye is the wireless charging ring, then the rear 50-megapixel main camera with a Sony IMX766 sensor, much larger compared to the other two lenses, supporting the OIS four-axis anti-shake, and a 32-megapixel front camera.

Open the cover, is a variety of dense components, including 01005 small package devices, bridge-type motherboard integrated light sensor, and gyroscope. Then LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, as well as a new generation of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 mobile platform and 4500mAh high-capacity battery with a new generation of lithium cobaltate material to improve battery capacity.

The disassembled symmetrical 115K dual speakers, and the X-axis linear motor. Next is the thermal material, the cover has 226mm² white graphene, or hexagonal boron nitride, which is a low dielectric high thermal conductivity material. Because its structure is very similar to graphite, with a hexagonal laminate structure, commonly used in the aerospace field. Also worth noting is that the entire Xiaomi 12 Series, only Xiaomi 12 built-in white graphene, Xiaomi 12X, and Xiaomi 12 Pro did not use.

The cover also has a large area of heat dissipation graphite, covering almost the entire body, after tearing open is a large area of 2600mm² VC even heat plate, covering 24.5% of the body area. This is the completion of the disassembly, it can be seen that to achieve the Xiaomi 12 one-handed volume, the machine’s circuit board into a “sandwich” structure, while the use of a new generation of lithium cobalt acid battery, and the VC even heat plate as thin as possible.

Xiaomi 12: the four challenges of small-screen flagship

At the beginning of the Xiaomi 12 series project, it set a dual-size, dual-flagship product layout: not only to make a full-dimensional flagship but also to make a small-size flagship. Of course, there are many ways to make the phone smaller, the battery first cut in half, the speaker and then remove a… this method is certainly unacceptable, at least in Xiaomi feel unacceptable.

So, when Xiaomi needs to accommodate the new generation of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 flagship processor, large battery, stereo speakers, full-featured NFC, wireless charging, infrared, and other features in a small volume, Xiaomi encountered four such problems.

First, how to ensure the battery capacity?

In a small volume, the space left for the battery has also become smaller. And to keep the battery capacity unchanged in a smaller volume, you need to improve the battery’s “energy density”.

Xiaomi 12 is the first to carry a new generation of lithium cobalt-acid batteries, which allows the voltage of the battery chemistry system to increase by 0.03V. The engineers also reduced the space occupied by the battery protection circuit by 45% through a special packaging process, leaving space for the battery cells. This not only makes Xiaomi 12 the highest energy density 67W battery in Xiaomi’s history but also 8.8% ahead of its friends.

How is the antenna headroom guaranteed?

From the front of the body, the phone is almost completely covered by the screen, and the Xiaomi 12 has the narrowest bezel of any Xiaomi phone. This poses a challenge to the antenna design. By structuring the left and right metal bezels, engineers have achieved three birds with one stone.

  1. Thinning the mid-frame, which allows for clearance for the antenna.
  2. Add reinforcements to restore the strength of the center frame.
  3. Allowing the screen panel to extend closer to the edges to improve the screen-to-body ratio.

What was thought to be a tough challenge has become a new opportunity to make the product more extreme.

Third, how is flagship performance guaranteed?

Xiaomi 12 is equipped with a new generation of Snapdragon 8 Gen1 flagship processor, LPDDR5 memory, and UFS3.1 flash memory, each of which is a big footprint. To ensure heat dissipation, the SoC also has a 2600mm² Vapor Chamber heat sink and a total of 10,345mm² of graphite heat sinks on the surface.

The difficulty lies in how to make the VC thin: by improving the Mesh density to enhance the capillary force, the VC can be as thin as 0.3mm, the thinnest in the history of Xiaomi phones, so that the thickness and weight of the whole machine can be maintained within the range of one-handed grip.

Fourth, how to ensure traditional art?

Although it is a small volume, the dual speakers must have, and to do symmetry; X-axis linear motor to have, the flagship main camera must also have; infrared, multi-functional NFC, wireless charging… battery density has been raised to the limit of the case, the space must be let out from the motherboard.

The Xiaomi 12 motherboard uses a large number of ultra-small package devices, a single size of only 0.25mm x 0.12mm; an innovative patch process to reduce the device pitch to the very limit of 0.1mm. such packaging and patch process makes Xiaomi 12 has the highest density 5G motherboard in the history of Xiaomi: compared to Xiaomi 11, in the case of a 10% increase in devices, but the area is reduced by 17%.

69.9mm 180g

This is the final result of Xiaomi 12. 69.9mm width makes it easy to reach the left and right edges with one hand, and weighing only 180g makes it easy to carry around. On top of that, it has flagship performance, all-day battery life, and excellent audio and video experience. That’s what you call a small form factor flagship.
