Recently, Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released his latest research report, saying that Apple’s AR/MR headset will be equipped with more 3D sensing modules than the iPhone, among which the structured light specifications will be significantly upgraded.

Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple AR/MR headset will be equipped with four sets of 3D sensing, compared to 1-2 sets for high-end smartphones like the iPhone. Among them, the structured light specifications for gesture control and object detection will be higher than the iPhone’s Face ID.

He said that Apple’s AR/MR headset structured light can detect changes in the position of the user’s hands and objects in front of the user’s eyes, but also dynamic details of hand changes, moving through these dynamic details, can provide a more vivid human-machine interface. For example, the detection of the user’s hand from a clenched fist to open, the hands of the balloon will fly away.

In addition, because of the need to detect the distance between the user’s hand and the object, Apple’s AR/MR headset’s structured light, will need to detect the distance farther than the iPhone’s Face ID and higher power.

Ming-Chi Kuo expects the structured light detection distance of Apple’s AR/MR headset to be 100-200 percent longer than that of the iPhone Face ID. Earlier in the report, Ming-Chi Kuo noted that Apple’s headset is an MR product that supports both AR and VR. This product can be used in the process of seamlessly switching between AR and VR to provide an innovative experience.

Among them, Apple’s first-generation headset is expected to be mass-produced in the fourth quarter of 2022 and may weigh 300-400g, using the same level of computing power and Mac processors. Support independent operation, do not need to rely on the computer or iPhone, while supporting universal applications, with their ecology.

Specific configuration, he predicted that the Apple AR headset will be equipped with 2 processors, high-performance processor computing power similar to Mac’s M1, and the other is mainly responsible for the sensor computing-related. In terms of display, the Apple AR headset is expected to be equipped with a 4K Micro OLED display provided by Sony, which requires significantly higher computing power than the iPhone.
