Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000
As the world’s largest chip supplier, MediaTek naturally will not lag behind the advanced process, after announcing that it will launch its first 5G flagship chip at the end of the year, and built using TSMC’s 4nm process.
Sources suggest that the successor to Snapdragon 888 will be named “Snapdragon 8 Gen1” instead of “Snapdragon 898”. Interestingly enough, the long-rumored MediaTek Dimensity 2000 chip has also been revealed to be officially named, with the news that it will be renamed “Dimensity 9000.” What kind of reason is unknown for the time being, may represent a substantial increase in performance.
Of course, it is only rumored, the final name is to be officially finalized, by the end of the launch, then the release is not far away. The positioning of these two flagship chips is difficult to figure out because of the different naming methods from the past. However, the specifications are very similar.
Both the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and the Dimensity 9000 use the latest 4nm process, and both use a 1+3+4 triple-cluster design with X2 mega-core support. The Snapdragon 8 Gen1 uses Samsung’s 4nm process, while the Dimensity 9000 uses TSMC’s 4nm process.
For this flagship chip, MediaTek is also very confident, claiming to integrate advanced AI, multimedia IP, and exclusive Dimensity 5G open architecture to provide differentiation, believed to be better than all products currently on the market.
