Samsung LPDDR5X DRAM Announcement
This week Samsung announced the successful development of its industry’s first 14-nanometer-based next-generation mobile DRAM – LPDDR5X (Low Power Double Data Rate 5X) and said its 14-nanometer LPDDR5X in speed, capacity, and power-saving characteristics significantly improved.
The data released by Samsung shows that LPDDR5X operates at the fastest speed in Samsung’s existing mobile DRAM, up to 8.5Gbps, which is 1.3 times the operating speed of the previous generation LPDDR5 product, 6.4Gbps.

Samsung’s current product uses a 14nm process. Compared with LPDDR5, the LPDDR5X power consumption rate can be reduced by about 20%. In addition, Samsung has developed a single chip capacity of 16Gb (gigabit) and expanded the total capacity of the mobile DRAM package to 64GB.
In recent years, hyperconnected market segments such as AI augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse, which rely on extremely fast large-scale data processing, have been rapidly expanding. Our LPDDR5X will broaden the use of high-performance, low-power memory beyond smartphones and bring new capabilities to AI-based edge applications like servers and even automobiles.
said SangJoon Hwang, Senior Vice President and Head of the DRAM Design Team at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung LPDDR5X is said to provide excellent solutions in terms of speed, capacity, and power-saving features, targeting future cutting-edge industries that will explode in growth such as 5G, Al, and metaverse.
Starting from the end of this year, Samsung will provide solutions for customers’ next-generation technologies through technology collaboration with global IT customers and convert them into a new product lineup.
