Apple Working on Two Foldable iPhones
Not a long ago, Samsung Electronics released its folding screen model Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3. According to a Business Korea report, sources said Apple is developing two folding screen phones, which are expected to come out in 2023. According to the report, Apple’s folding screen phone folding form or will use the left and right open cover and the upper and lower folding two designs (like Z Fold3 and Flip3 style).
Apple is currently developing foldable panels with LG Display. It is reported that the folding panel will use etching technology, which reduces the thickness of the inner folding display panel, the screen size maybe 7.5 inches. Earlier, LG Chem said it had developed a new material for foldable displays that are as hard as glass but can be bent in both directions without creasing problems. LG Chem described its new development as a Real Folding Window. The new material is said to be used in folding screen smartphones and other portable device screens, including notebooks and tablets.
It is worth mentioning that some media reported previously that Apple has developed a new hinge technology that can hide the hinge almost perfectly inside the body. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip’s bare exterior design, Apple’s new hinge technology can make the phone more coordinated and complete in appearance, while also preventing dust from entering the interior of the hinge and improving hinge durability.
Previously, regarding the foldable iPhones, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has pointed out that through industry research, Apple is expected to launch a folding iPhone in 2023 with an 8-inch QHD+ OLED folding screen, with SDC Samsung Display as the exclusive supplier and TPK Chen Hon Technology’s nano-silver touch control solution. He predicts that the folding iPhone shipments in 2023 will be between 15-20 million units.
Kuo said the foldable phone market has become a new battleground for major cell phone brands and is expected to further drive the replacement cycle of the high-end cell phone market, predicting shipments of about 7.5 million and 17 million units in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
