Huami Huangshan 2S Self-developed Chip
In the field of smart wear, manufacturers have delved into the most core self-research chip – Huami Technology recently launched a more powerful Huangshan 2S chip, performance, energy efficiency, heat control, and other aspects of further upgrades, with Huami’s OS system, together with the new generation of Huami watch.
At the conference, Huami Technology co-founder Zhao Yajun introduced the road of Huami chip’s self-research, starting from the layout in 2015, investing in SiFive, which invented the RISC-V instruction set, in 2018, and releasing the Huangshan 1 and Huangshan 2 chips in 2019 and 2020, respectively, and now Huangshan 2S is here.
According to Huami, Huangshan 2S uses a dual-core RISC-V architecture, is the first wearable artificial intelligence processor with dual-core RISC-V architecture, ultra-powerful core computing performance can support graphics, UI operations, and other high-load computing, large-core system while integrating FPU support floating-point operations, performance than Huangshan 2 increased by 18%, running power consumption reduced by 56%, hibernation power consumption directly reduced by 93%.
In addition to the CPU architecture upgrade, Huami Huangshan 2S this time a major innovation is the first time to wearable chip brought independent 2.5D GPU, with independent and efficient processing of graphics-related instructions, making the wearable device graphics system more smooth, GPU graphics performance than Huangshan 2 increased by 67%, the performance gap is very obvious.
In AI artificial intelligence, Huangshan 2S is also equipped with a convolutional neural network accelerated processing unit, can quickly identify the type of disease, atrial fibrillation, for example, its recognition speed is 26 times faster than pure software calculation.
Overall, Huangshan 2S will refresh the smartwatch experience in terms of function, performance, and power balance, and has been successfully streamed in March this year, and will be one of the core chips of the third generation Amazfit smartwatch.
Huami Technology says the company has invested an average of 410 million yuan in R&D each year for the past 3 years, and last year it invested 538 million yuan, which is 2-3 times more than other emerging Internet companies and IoT smart hardware companies. The high investment in R&D has resulted in more than 1,000 patents, nearly half of which are invention patents, and nearly 100 core invention patents in the U.S. All patents have been granted up to 550.
