OmniVision OV02C and OV60A

OmniVision OV02C Image Sensor

OmniVision Technologies announced the industry’s first 1/7-inch 2-megapixel image sensor, the OV02C, which enables high-definition (FHD) video performance in narrow-bezel laptops, tablets, and mobile IoT devices.

OmniVision Technologies says the sensor design allows the module to be as thin as 3mm in the Y-direction to meet the needs of high screen-to-body designs while delivering a frame rate of 60 frames per second.

The OV02C’s “Always On” feature senses user presence in ultra-low-power mode and the system can be locked and woken up touchless, extending the lifetime of the battery. The OV02C has a signal-to-noise ratio of 37.5dB for clearer images. In addition, PureCel Plus-S offers higher full-trap capacity, zero blurs, and lower power consumption. The OV02C also supports multi-camera synchronization and multi-frame HDR (30 fps live video streaming).

Officially, OmniVision’s New OV02C Is a Full-Featured Image Sensor that Combines Superior Video Performance and Ultra-Low Power in a Miniature Size for High Screen-to-Body Ratio Designs.

OmniVision OV60A Image Sensor

OmniVision also announces previously exposed the world’s first 0.61µm pixel, high-resolution 4k image sensor for high-end mobile phone front-facing & rear-facing cameras. OmniVision OV60A is a 1/2.8-Inch small format 60 megapixel CMOS image sensor that supports 4k video with EIS.

The OmniVision OV60A offers 60-megapixel resolution with the smallest pixel size in its class at 0.61µm. It can fit into a 1/2.8-inch optical format in either 3:4 or 16:9 aspect ratio configurations.

The 4-cell color filter array on the OV60A image sensor uses near-pixel binning to output up to 15MP images with 4x the sensitivity offering 1.22 µm equivalent performance for preview and native 4K video with extra pixels for electronic image stabilization (EIS). The sensor also supports low power mode for “always-on” sensing that can save precious battery life when paired with the phone’s artificial intelligence functions.

OmniVision OV60A

To achieve an increase in resolution, along with smaller pixel size and optical format, the OV60A is built on OmniVision’s PureCel Plus-S stacked die technology. The new 0.61µm pixel is 24 percent smaller in area than the previous generation 0.7 µm pixel solution, yet it can achieve higher Quantum Efficiency (QE) with better crosstalk and angular response than the 0.7 µm generation.

The OV60A can output 15MP or 4K2K with EIS resolutions at 60 frames per second and supports staggered HDR timing for high dynamic range video enablement. The “always-on” low power modes include an ambient light sensing mode for wake up as well as a low power streaming mode. This sensor also can support dual I/O voltage rails (1.8V and 1.2V) as well as the CPHY interface.
