Royole Stretchable Display Technology
Recently, the world’s most influential professional event in the field of display “International Display Week” (2021 Display Week) was held online, which was hosted by the International Society for Information Display (SID) and featured the top cutting-edge display technologies, products, and research achievements from around the world.
At the event, Royole stretchable display technology debuted based on micro-LED, which shocked the audience with stretchable like a rubber band. Royole stretchable display, that stretchable does not refer to the pull-out reel design, but the flexible screen itself has a certain elasticity and deformation capacity while displaying images that can stretch like a balloon or rubber band, supporting large scale deformation such as a bump, twist, rotation, also capable of 3D free form shaping.

This means that the future display screen can be attached to any irregular, or even the surface of the object is changing at any time, to truly achieve where the surface is the screen. For example, the stretchable flexible screen can be a new type of fabric, the future of our clothes can play video and graphics to achieve intelligent interaction; 360-degree dynamic display of the globe, in addition to geographic information, can also display the history, humanities and other related content, so that information access more vivid and rich; even stick on the skin of smartphones are thus possible.
The development of stretchable display technology compatible with existing industrial manufacturing processes is a signal of the exponential growth the flexible electronics industry is experiencing. Royole continues to lead in flexible innovation, with stretchable technologies marking the next frontier in technical progress that will enable unprecedented applications and form factors across augmented and virtual reality, wearable electronics, biomedical applications, vehicle design, and beyond.
said Dr. Bill Liu, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Royole.
Some display industry sources point out that the stretchable flexible display or the ultimate version of the flexible screen. According to the introduction, Royole stretchable flexible screen technology, that is elastic micro-LED display technology.
The flexible screen produced with this technology not only has a fully flexible screen, thin, curly, bendable, and other characteristics but also able to achieve stretching, twisting, rotation, and other elastic deformation, stretching can reach 130%, that is, a length of 10 cm screen can be stretched to 13 cm.
Stretching at the same time, by using a small size LED chip, the current pixel density can reach 120ppi, equivalent to the display pixels of an everyday laptop and car screens. The surface of the screen can be concave and convex stretched, and the angle between the apex of the concave or convex and the plane can reach 40 degrees.

Especially worth mentioning is that the light transmission rate of elastic micro-LED display technology is better than that of flexible OLED, which can reach 60-70%, equivalent to the light transmission rate of car film, suitable for car windshields, sunroofs, helmets, sunglasses and other non-regular surfaces, perfectly fitting while still meeting light transmission requirements.

The stretchable flexible screen can be combined with AR technology, which means that navigation information can be displayed on the car windshield or sunglasses in real-time through the stretchable flexible screen, eliminating the need for drivers to look left and right to find routes and street signs, and integrating digital information about the surrounding environment when approaching the destination, pushing out timely information about the nearby parking environment.
