Qualcomm 3D Sonic second-generation fingerprint sensor
Last night, Samsung officially released the 2021 annual flagship – Samsung Galaxy S21 Series, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 5nm 5G mobile platform and 108MP ISOCELL HM3 ultra-high-definition quad camera.
Now Qualcomm has confirmed that the entire Samsung Galaxy S21 lineup features the Qualcomm 3D Sonic second-generation fingerprint sensor, the largest under-screen fingerprint sensor available in a smartphone. The sensor measures 8x8mm and has 1.7 times the recognition area of its predecessor, designed to provide a larger area for fingerprint image capture on smart devices and improve unlock speed.
Qualcomm official Cristiano R. Amon confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S21 series debuted Qualcomm’s second-generation 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology. According to the official, Qualcomm’s second-generation 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition performs 3D scanning of the finger to obtain a more accurate image, faster and safer.
Compared with optical under-screen fingerprint recognition, the ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint does not require supplemental light and can complete the entire scanning process through a glass in a wet state.
