Answering Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, Samsung officially released its latest flagship SoC Exynos 2100, which is the second Android flagship SoC with Cortex-X1 mega-core after Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Exynos 2100 uses Samsung’s 5nm EUV process, which is claimed to improve performance by 10% and reduce power consumption by 20% compared to 7nm.

Specific specifications, the SoC integrated 8-core CPU, consisting of a 2.9GHz Cortex-X1 mega-core + three 2.8GHz A78 + four 2.2GHz A55 small cores, of which the X1 frequency slightly more than the Snapdragon 888 2.84GHz. Samsung officials said that the Exynos 2100 CPU performance is 30% higher than its predecessor, with a 19% increase in single-core and 33% increase in multi-core.

GPU, Exynos 2100 integrated Mali-G78 MP14, a total of 14 cores, claimed to improve performance by 40%. Theoretically, it should be lower than the 24 cores of Snapdragon 888 and Kirin 9000.

Samsung claims that this time the GPU supports AMIGO multi-IP regulation technology, which can jointly optimize the power consumption of CPU, GPU, and other parts to extend the endurance even under high load. NPU uses 3 AI cores and the highest AI arithmetic power reaches 26TOPS, the same as the Snapdragon 888, which is a considerable upgrade.

Samsung Exynos 2100 Specifications

At the same time, Exynos 2100 is also Samsung’s first fully integrated 5G chip, supporting 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G Sub-6G, 5G mmWave, the former speed up to 5.1Gbps, with millimeter wave speed up to 7.35Gbps, 4G network can also reach 3Gbps effect. On advanced features, up to support UFS 3.1 storage, single-way up to 200MP, and up to 6 image sensors. Finally, Samsung said that the Exynos 2100 is now in mass production and, not surprisingly, the Galaxy S21 series will be the first model to be equipped with the Exynos 2100.

Samsung AMD Graphics Mobile Processor

Before the end of the launch, Samsung also announced a piece of heavyweight news. Samsung said it is working with AMD and the next flagship processor will be equipped with a “next-generation mobile GPU”.

Rumors of Samsung working with AMD to develop GPUs have been around for a long time. As early as June 2019, the two sides announced a multi-year strategic partnership, and as part of the partnership, Samsung will receive AMD graphics IP licenses and will focus on advanced graphics technologies and solutions that are critical to enhancing innovation in mobile devices, including smartphones.

As we prepare for disruptive changes in technology and discover new opportunities, our partnership with AMD will allow us to bring groundbreaking graphics products and solutions to market for tomorrow’s mobile applications. We look forward to working with AMD to accelerate innovations in mobile graphics technologies that will help take future mobile computing to the next level.

said Inyup Kang, president of Samsung Electronics’ S.LSI Business.

Adoption of our Radeon graphics technologies across the PC, game console, cloud and HPC markets has grown significantly and we are thrilled to now partner with industry leader Samsung to accelerate graphics innovation in the mobile market. This strategic partnership will extend the reach of our high-performance Radeon graphics into the mobile market, significantly expanding the Radeon user base and development ecosystem.

said Dr. Lisa Su, AMD president, and CEO.
