OmniVision Technology announced the OmniVision OV40A before the International Consumer Electronics Show, a 40-megapixel, 1.0-micron pixel size image sensor with ultra-high gain and noise reduction technology and 1/1.7-inch optical format.
The sensor also offers multiple high dynamic range (HDR) options for capturing still images and video. Besides, it supports 1080p slow-motion and high-speed video capture at 240 frames per second and features phase detection autofocus.
The OV40A supports up to 256x gain with multi-sampling noise reduction for improved low-light performance, said OmniVision. The sensor provides HDR through selective gain conversion to balance low light image quality with HDR and offers staggered HDR timing options for second and third exposures.
The OV40A features OmniVision Technologies’ PureCel Plus-S wafer stacking technology with an integrated on-chip 4-in-1 color filter array and hardware pixel reduction algorithms to deliver 40 megapixels Bayer output in real-time. In low light conditions, this sensor can output 10-megapixel images as well as 4K/2K and 1080p video with quadruple the sensitivity using near-pixel merging and achieve 2.0-micron pixel size equivalent performance.
The Ovt OV40A output formats include 40MP (30 fps), 10MP (30 fps, 4-in-1 pixel merge), 4K/2K video (60 fps) and 1080p video (240 fps). All of these formats can be captured with the phase detection autofocus feature. Other features include a CPHY interface, multi-camera synchronization, and a 34.7-degree main light angle.
