Xiaomi Mix Alpha Rollable
The OPPO X 2021 Rollable phone concept was unveiled at the OPPO Future Technology Conference held in November this year. According to the media outlet LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi recently approved a design patent for a similar rollable display phone design, but with a different principle.
The patent was filed by Xiaomi with the USPTO in 2019 and approved on October 29, 2020. The design uses two staggered sliding bars to support the retractable display, which moves in a curved track and can be more than twice as long when the screen is fully stretched, according to a rendering made by the Letsgodigital with Concept Creator.
There is a button on the top of the phone that unlocks and unfolds the screen, which also serves as the phone’s power switch. Two cleverly designed sliders on the inside of the body ensure that the screen unfolds evenly and applies even force. To support the flexible screen and protect the edges, the top and bottom bezels of the phone are raised above the surface of the screen, as in the OPPO X 2021.
Unlike the OPPO X 2021, Xiaomi’s screen is bypassed at the sides and covers the back of the phone. Xiaomi Rollable patent shows Mix Alpha type design with the retractable display, may be called as “Xiaomi Mix Alpha Rollable in future.”
As you can see from the rendering, the phone uses a rear-facing triple camera with flash, and since the back of the phone is also covered by the display, there is no need to design a separate front-facing camera.
OPPO scrolling screen concept, the phone’s screen-sliding design uses a Roll Motor power scheme, with a built-in motor driving the screen’s expansion and retraction. The active structure of the screen is a double-matrix embedded clutch structure, and two interlocking plates can firmly support the screen slide.
