In the past few years, Samsung has shown and sold to a very wealthy few its futuristic modular TV called The Wall, which uses MicroLED technology. In 2018, Samsung’s first MicroLED display was introduced in the form of “The Wall” which was a system of configurable modules that could be installed professionally. The next big leap forward for displays in our lives. Now Samsung MicroLED TV to a more traditional TV form factor.

Today, the company unveiled its 110-inch MicroLED TV, which is available for pre-order today in South Korea and will be available globally in the first quarter of 2021. Samsung claims the TV has a 99.99% screen-to-body ratio, but still manages to build an “embedded Majestic sound system” that claims to deliver stunning 5.1-channel sound without external speakers.

With Samsung’s latest engineering innovations, the 110’’ MicroLED uses micrometer-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters utilized in conventional displays. It expresses 100% of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut and accurately delivers wide color gamut images taken with high-end DSLR cameras. This results in stunning, lifelike colors and accurate brightness from the display’s 4K resolution and 8 million pixels.

Because all of these LEDs are self-emitting, you get perfect blacks and fantastic contrast, which is what OLEDs are known for. But crucially, MicroLEDs are made of inorganic materials, so they should have better long-term durability without the screen-burning issues that have become increasingly rare on modern OLED TVs. Samsung estimates a lifespan of about 100,000 hours, or up to a decade.

Utilizing the large 110-inch Micro LED screen, Samsung has optimized the Smart TV’s functionality. Consumers can use the multi-view feature to watch content on four split 55-inch screens simultaneously, where multiple external devices can be connected to watch news, movies, etc. at the same time.

Until now, Samsung says, it was impossible to manufacture a 110-inch MicroLED TV, and the company believes that “new manufacturing processes from its semiconductor business” have helped achieve this goal. Smaller MicroLED TVs are already on the roadmap, and while their price will certainly be out of reach for many, the price will come down someday. Samsung MicroLED TV with 110-inch size could be priced at 1.15 crore INR or 170 million won.
