Samsung Exynos 1080 5nm

This afternoon, Samsung officially unveiled the Exynos 1080 5nm, its flagship mobile processor, which is one of the first chips built using the 5nm EUV FinFET process. Compared to Samsung’s 7nm process, Samsung’s 5nm process increases the transistor count density by more than 80%, which can bring more performance and lower power consumption.

Compared to the 8nm LPP process, the 5nm process used in the Samsung Exynos 1080 has 14% higher performance and 30% lower power consumption; compared to the 7nm DUV, it has 7% higher performance and 18% lower power consumption.

Not only that, the Exynos 1080 CPU is powered by ARM 2020’s latest flagship Cortex-A78 CPU core, the world’s first 5nm Cortex A78 CPU. It is the fourth generation of high-end CPUs based on DynamIQ technology and offers a 20 percent higher performance than the A77 at the same power consumption. And for the same performance, the A78 consumes 50 percent less energy than the A77.

This time, the Samsung Exynos 1080 features a 1+3+4 triple cluster architecture, specifically, the octa-core CPU combines one top-performance Cortex-A78 core (2.8GHz), three high-performance Cortex-A78 cores (2.6GHz), and four efficient Cortex-A55 cores (2.0GHz).

Officials say that this powerful core combination is optimized for the new form factor to deliver the performance needed to harness multitasking, giving it nearly twice the CPU performance of its predecessor, the Exynos 980. Besides, the Exynos 1080’s GPU is powered by ARM’s latest flagship Mali-G78 GPU core from 2020, which offers up to a 25 percent performance boost over the Mali-G77.

The GPU of Exynos 1080 also uses the Mali-G78 MP10 from ARM. Under the Mahattan v3 standard, the overall performance of the GPU has increased by 2.3 times. And the exclusive development of the Amigo power distribution program makes the high-performance gaming experience more durable.

To make mobile phone photos smarter, Exynos 1080 integrates artificial intelligence technology into the ISP, and the high-performance ISP supports up to 200 million pixels and 6 cameras. It also supports native 10-bit color shooting and the ability to directly edit HDR10+ videos.

Specifically, the Samsung Exynos 1080 scored a whopping 693600, of which the CPU score is 181099, GPU score is 297676, MEM score is 115169, and UX score is 99656 on the AnTuTuTu exposure, making it one of the top-scoring processor platforms.

What’s more, the Exynos 1080 integrates Samsung’s latest 5G NSA/SA dual-mode modem, which supports download speeds of up to 5.1Gbps. Besides, to support 5G NR Sub-6 and mmWave, it also supports 2G, 3G, and 4G for greater global network coverage. Notably, the Exynos 1080 also supports WiFi 6 technology, Bluetooth 5.2, supports four-channel LPDDR4/5 memory, 1080P 144Hz refresh rate, 1080P HDR10+ video, 10-bit 4K video recording.

Vivo and Samsung, as friendly strategic partners, have always maintained close contact and cooperation. Vivo X60 Series about to launch soon, which is expected first to debut Exynos 1080 with Vivo X60.
