With the development of technology, mobile phone photography quality has been able to rival traditional card cameras, especially in the zoom, thanks to the introduction of periscopic telephoto, the phone has supported 5x or even 10x optical zoom.

This afternoon, at the Xiaomi Developer Conference, Zeng Xuezhong, vice president of Xiaomi Group and president of the mobile phone division, shared the progress of Xiaomi’s camera technology and announced that Xiaomi has successfully developed a Xiaomi telescopic lens technology on its own.

As the name suggests, the telescopic lens telescopes the phone’s lens in a way that is common in DSLR cameras and very rare in the mobile phone field. It is reported that Xiaomi uses a telescopic large aperture lens, which can achieve better optical results in a limited size, drawing on professional cameras, independently developed telescopic camera technology.

Thanks to the large aperture, it can increase the amount of light into the phone to take pictures by 300%. While introducing new anti-shake technology, the picture is more stable, and the clarity is increased by 20%.

From the demonstration point of view, this telescopic lens will retract into the phone when not taking pictures, and will automatically extend when taking pictures, the whole process responds very quickly.

In terms of R&D system construction, Xiaomi has invested more than 10 billion yuan in R&D this year; authorized more than 16,000 patents worldwide (55% in China and 45% outside China) and more than 3,200 patents related to the 5G standard; set up 10 global R&D centers and will recruit 5,000 engineers next year; and invested billions of yuan to establish laboratories around the world, covering tens of thousands of square meters. It’s unclear when this technology will be commercially available, but it won’t be long now, so perhaps the new MIX series will be equipped with it?
