Samsung Exynos 1080 5nm SoC – Vivo will debut first
With the development of the semiconductor process, 5nm chips are about to open a full-scale competition, with the Apple A14 first, followed by the Snapdragon 875, Kirin 9000, Exynos 2100/1080, and many other new SoCs built at 5nm.
This morning, Samsung Semiconductor China Research Institute director Dr. Pan Xuebao revealed in an interview, integrated the latest technology Samsung Exynos 1080 will soon meet with everyone, using the 5nm process.
The chip’s exact process was not stated, but speculation is that it is the same 5nm LPE process as the Snapdragon 875, with a further increase in energy efficiency. Dr. Pan further stated that Exynos 1080 uses ARM’s latest CPU architecture Cortex-A78 and the latest GPU architecture Mali-G78.
In terms of specifications, the Exynos 1080 can be said to be a double upgrade to the flagship level, and it is claimed to be designed specifically for the Chinese market. According to official ARM data, under the same process conditions, the A78’s CPU performance is about 20% higher than the A77, and G78’s GPU performance is 25% higher than the G77.
The first manufacturer, there is news that by Vivo’s model debut, Q4 this year, the positioning is the same as before, not put to the highest end of the product line, but the mid- to high-end market, speculation will be the X series?
Besides, Samsung is not only preparing a 5nm chip, but there is also said to be a higher positioned 5nm flagship chip, named Exynos 2100, which will debut on Samsung’s models.
