6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 775G Revealed Outperforms Snapdragon 8 Series

Qualcomm Snapdragon 775G, Snapdragon 875, and Snapdragon 875G

TSMC and Samsung have been very aggressive in new processes over the past few years, launching advanced processes such as 7nm, and now 5nm has been scheduled for mass production, with the Apple A14 Bionic, Snapdragon 875, and Kirin 9000 coming on board.

According to the latest scoop from Roland Quandt, a well-known technology enthusiast, the upcoming Snapdragon 875 is codenamed SM8350, internally known as Lahaina (place name, located in the Hawaiian Islands), and offers a Plus version. Qualcomm will launch a Snapdragon 875 Plus version (Qualcomm Snapdragon 875G), it could be set to debut next year, internally known as Lahaina+.

The Snapdragon 875 is said to be built using Samsung’s 5nm EUV process, taking the 7nm EUV process for comparison, with the former offering a 10% performance boost, 20% lower power consumption, and 25% higher logical area efficiency, and the Snapdragon 875’s mega-core is said to be based on the Cortex-X1, which further improves performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 875G chip will likely use ARM Cortex-X1 core + 3×Cortex-A78 + 4×Cortex-A55 core, equipped with the X60 5G baseband, and the chip has been selected Samsung 5nm EUV foundry, 5nm process is expected to reduce the area of about 25 percent compared to the 7nm process of the chip which will improve the efficiency of about 20 percent.

Meanwhile, the source also mentions that the Snapdragon 775G, codenamed SM7350 and known internally as Cedros, won’t be unveiled at the Qualcomm Technology summit in December, instead opting for early next year.

The Snapdragon 775G is said to be built on a 6nm process, which is a very big upgrade over its predecessor (Snapdragon 765G). The Snapdragon 775G is also said to have some connection to the Snapdragon 875G, as the Snapdragon 775G is being tested on a platform configured with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM + 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash, which is more of a replacement for the current sub-flagship chipset than a mid-range position.

As far as this platform is concerned, the Snapdragon 775G is essentially running as a sub-franchise, with a 40% increase in CPU performance and as much as a 50% increase in GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 765G. The report also claims that the Snapdragon 775G outperforms the Snapdragon 855 and can even take a beating with the Snapdragon 865, so it remains to be seen what will happen.
