Today, Sony officially unveiled its new Xperia 5 Mark 2, positioned as a flagship, still using a 21:9 with fish screen design focused on photography and video, which is cheaper than the Xperia 1 Mark 2 and goes on sale on September 29, with prices starting at $950. Another major improvement is that Sony has included a 120Hz screen with a high refresh rate.

In terms of design and look, the machine has a non-shaped screen on the front, fingerprint recognition on the side and independent camera key, and a vertical three-camera on the back. The body size is 158x68x8mm and weighs 163g. It is available in four colors: black, gray, blue, and pink.

The Xperia 5 Mark 2 is a phone with a 21:9 OLED screen with a resolution of 2520×1080, a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, and support for HDR, video interpolation, and Creator mode, but it’s a relatively small 6.1 inches, making it a more pocket-sized phone than the Xperia 1 Mark 2. The phone’s body is IP68/IPX5 rated for dust and water resistance and is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back.

According to the officials, the Xperia 5 Mark 2 comes with a game mode that locks the frame rate, touch sampling rate, blur compensation, etc., and enables playing games with the charging cable attached while the battery is not recharged to reduce heat. Sony has also included a graphene heatsink to wick the heat away from the motherboard.

Core configuration, the machine is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, providing 8GB RAM + 128GB/256GB ROM, battery capacity of 4000mAh, support 18W wired fast charging, does not support wireless charging, running Android 10 system (Android 11 update is on the way). Sony is also sticking with dual front-facing stereo speakers and a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.

As for the camera, the Sony Xperia 5 Mark 2 has a 12-megapixel main shooter + 12-megapixel super wide-angle + 12-megapixel telephoto triple shooter on the rear and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter on the front. Sony says it’s the first smartphone capable of shooting 4K 120FPS 10-bit HDR video, with continuous shooting speeds of 20fps and support for eye-control focus, among other things.
