LG has not announced a price for the device, saying only that it will vary depending on the carrier and will initially be sold exclusively by Verizon. Some insider suggests that LG Wing 5G price will be between 900-1000 USD.

LG Wing uses two screens in conjunction, a 6.8-inch 2460 x 1080 OLED display as the primary screen and a 3.9-inch 1240 x 1080 OLED screen on the secondary screen, a rear 64MP (f/1.8) primary + 13MP (f/1.9) 117° FOV) super wide-angle lens + 12MP (f/2.2 120°) super wide-angle lens, 32MP front-facing lens, built-in 4000 mAh battery, support for IP54 water and dust resistance, and under-screen fingerprint scanner.

Users can multi-task using two separate apps on both the main and secondary screens, or use the extended mode of one app. For example, you can watch a movie on one screen and chat on the other, or play a game on the home screen and use the secondary screen as a gamepad, or display different text or write while reading on each screen. It also supports dual recording mode, with the front and rear cameras working simultaneously.

User experience (UX) expansion through a hidden second screen

‘LG Wing’ is a product that adds a completely different user experience to the convenience of a bar-type smartphone that users are familiar with, and with ‘Swivel Mode’. Customers can usually use it like a regular smartphone, but if necessary, turn the main screen clockwise and use it with the hidden second screen. In the swivel mode of ‘LG Wing’, you can use both screens with one application, or you can use two applications.

Two screens in one application

Using the swivel mode of ‘LG Wing’, users can control videos such as playback and fast forward on the second screen while viewing videos on the main screen when using streaming applications such as YouTube.

In particular, Naver Whale Browser, a platform partner of the ‘Explorer Project’, supports PIP (Picture In Picture). With this feature, you can watch YouTube videos on the main screen, and view other content lists or write comments on the second screen.

LG Electronics has also collaborated with partners such as Rave, Picto, and Tobe so that the second screen can be used for ‘real-time chat’ and ‘video recommendation and search’. LG Electronics plans to continuously expand partnerships with various domestic and foreign platform companies so that customers can experience an expanded experience by using both displays in ‘LG Wing’.

It is also possible to use two applications in the swivel mode of the ‘LG Wing’. Customers can chat or search with friends on the second screen while watching the big screen video on the main screen. You can also use the navigation by rotating the main screen vertically to select music on the second screen or check the callee.

LG Electronics also provides a ‘multi-app’ function that sets the combination of applications that customers usually use. With this feature, your favorite apps appear on the main and second screens with a single touch, without having to select an application every time.

‘LG Wing’ is a product with a differentiated form factor and can be used in various forms such as ‘TT’, ‘ㅏ’, and’ㅗ’. LG Electronics expects that customers will be able to expand the user experience (UX, User Experience) indefinitely while using it in the desired form according to the situation according to the segmented and personalized lifestyle.

Presenting a new standard for content appreciation with ‘notch-less display’

The main screen of ‘LG Wing’ is equipped with ‘Notchless OLED FullVision Display’ with an aspect ratio of 6.8-inch 20.5:9. Unlike general smartphones, there is no front camera area on the screen, which maximizes the sense of immersion when watching videos or playing games.

When watching a video in ‘Swivel Mode’ in ‘LG Wing’, you can comfortably hold and enjoy the second screen with one hand. LG Electronics applied the ‘Grip-Lock’ function to the new product so that the button on the second screen was not pressed when viewing the video in swivel mode.

The second screen of ‘LG Wing’ can also be used as a media controller to control images. Existing smartphones have a control box such as pause and fast forward in the screen, so video immersion has decreased.

LG Electronics applied a separate 32-megapixel pop-up camera instead of an integrated front camera to implement a ‘notch-less’ display. This camera is usually invisible, but when you run the front camera, it appears from the top of the body.

The world’s first ‘Gimbal Motion Camera’ function installed… The king of video content production

From the planning stage of ‘LG Wing’, LG Electronics added a new camera function to actively respond to the trend that customers use their smartphones to record and share their daily lives.

On the rear of the LG Wing’, 3 cameras are mounted, respectively, with 64MP (wide angle), 13MP (ultra wide-angle), and 12MP (ultra wide-angle) cameras, allowing you to take pictures and videos of various angles of view such as landscapes and people.

LG Electronics applied the ‘Gimbal Motion Camera’ function for the first time in the world to maximize the advantages of the form factor that only ‘LG Wing’ has. Gimbal is a professional device that enables stable and smooth video recording by making a motion in the opposite direction of the camera shaking when recording video with a smartphone or camera.

If you switch the ‘LG Wing’ to the swivel mode and shoot, the smartphone becomes a ‘TT’ shape, and you can shoot comfortably and securely with one hand. In conventional smartphones, there was an inconvenience of having to hold both ends with both hands when shooting a horizontal video.

  • LG Electronics is on the second screen ‘Joystick’ that can adjust the camera angle without moving the smartphone.
  • ‘Lock mode’ that shoots the subject without shaking up, down, left, and right.
  • The camera slowly follows and shakes even if the smartphone moves quickly Video recording such as ‘Follow mode’ for shooting without.
  • ‘Pan Follow mode’ for shooting horizontally and without shaking up and down.
  • ‘FPV (First Person View) mode’ suitable for shooting dynamic movements It provides an interface similar to a gimbal, a piece of professional equipment, so that anyone can easily shoot professional-looking videos.

LG Electronics also introduces the ‘Dual Recording’ function. ‘Dual Recording’ is a function that allows the photographer and the screen to be shot together by using the rear camera and the front pop-up camera at the same time. You can choose whether to save the files as one or separately, and you can choose between 1:1 or 16:9 depending on the platform you are using.

If you use the second screen of ‘LG Wing’, video editing becomes easy. The video to be edited is divided into the main screen and the editing tool is divided into a second screen, allowing more detailed editing.

‘LG Wing’ is also equipped with ‘Creator Kits’ such as ‘Time Lapse’, ‘Voice Outfocus’, and ASMR, which are being applied in earnest from LG Velvet and receiving favorable reviews from actual customers.

Sturdy design reduces weight and realizes a luxurious touch

LG Electronics used ‘high-strength aluminum alloy’, a composite lightweight material for the ‘LG Wing’, and benchmarked the weight reduction know-how of the ultra-light notebook ‘LG Gram’ to reduce the weight. It focused on weight reduction by applying a perforation technique that reduces the total weight in the hole to the part that does not affect the appearance and rigidity of the product.

The ‘LG Wing’ has an ergonomic design that does not significantly deviate from the center of the product in both the basic mode and the swivel mode. Therefore, you can use it comfortably even if you hold it for a long time.

In case the customer drops the product while shooting with the front pop-up camera, LG Electronics designed the camera to re-enter the product before falling to the floor when the acceleration sensor detects the fall.

LG Electronics has developed its own ‘miniature hinge for mobile’ so that the main screen of ‘LG Wing’ can rotate firmly and smoothly. A specially designed ‘hydraulic damper’ technology is applied to this hinge to mitigate the shock that occurs when the screen rotates.

Besides, LG Electronics specially treated the area around the second screen with POM (Poly-Oxy-Methylene) material with good lubrication to realize smooth movement without scratching the second screen during rotation.

As a result, the main screen moves slowly overtime during the swivel operation, enabling a luxurious touch. Besides, the swivel motion that returns after the main screen rotates was repeatedly tested more than 200,000 times to ensure durability against the swivel motion.

LG Electronics installed Qualcomm’s 5G chipset, Snapdragon 765G 5G, on the LG Wing. ‘Snapdragon 765G 5G‘ is Qualcomm’s first chipset integrating an AP (Application Processor) and a 5G modem. Compared to the Snapdragon 765, the graphics rendering speed and gaming performance are 10% faster. Designed with a 7 nanometer (nm) process, the performance and battery use efficiency is also excellent.

‘LG Wing’ is scheduled to be released in the domestic market next month and sequentially in North America and Europe.
