Xiaomi Mi 10 Supreme Memorial Edition a.k.a. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has been released, one of the highlights of the machine is equipped with 120W wired fast charging, mobile phone charging power officially entered the hundred-watt level.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has a large 4500mAh equivalent built-in battery, and for the first time uses the industry’s rare 120W high-power wired charging, which charges 41% in 5 minutes and will charge to 100% in 23 minutes. 98.5% conversion ultra-efficient charge pump
Custom, or two?
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra features a new 4:2 high-power charging architecture, which not only reduces the impedance of the charging paths but also improves the overall conversion efficiency by breaking down the high current into two low-current charging paths. The two charging paths are each equipped with ultra-efficient customized charge pump charging chips, forming a dual charge pump parallel architecture.
Among them, two custom charge pumps with a conversion efficiency of up to 98.5% not only make the charging conversion rate higher but also greatly improve the stability of charging. In the 120W high-power charging process, the two 20V 3A high-voltage current into two 10V 6A low-voltage current, and finally converge into a 10V 12A high-current input battery.
This charge pump chip is specially customized by Qualcomm following Xiaomi’s charging needs, and the charge conversion efficiency is much higher than that of past charge pump chips, with higher charging efficiency and lower losses, reducing the energy loss in the charging process from the source. Secondly, the more efficient custom charge pump also reduces the heat generated during the charging process, and the lower charging temperature further extends the duration of high-power charging and improves the charging speed.
Graphene-based butterfly dual string battery: Extreme space stuffed into a 4500mAh battery
To meet the 120W high-power charging, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra adopts a new butterfly dual-serial battery, with two 2250mAh cells in series inside the battery, which is equivalent to 4500mAh. The structural design of the butterfly dual-cell series can double the charging power with the same charging current.
The newly designed butterfly package has a smaller protection circuit than the traditional side-by-side dual-series battery, gaining greater battery capacity with the same size. The back of the protection circuit also adds a phase change heat storage material to effectively mitigate battery temperature rise during the charging process and extend the duration of high-power charging.
Secondly, the Mi 10 Ultra also features several custom designs designed specifically for the battery to meet the demands of 120W high-power fast charging. The battery cell adopts a low internal resistance ear design, which reduces the internal resistance of the traditional battery by 36%, achieving lower charging losses and faster-charging speed, as well as lowering the temperature by 4.8℃ during the charging process.
Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra adds a new highly conductive material – graphene-based battery cathode, conductive performance is 1000 times that of traditional carbon black material, greatly improving the charging efficiency of the battery.
Thicker and lower impedance dual FPC connection between the battery and the motherboard, on the one hand, dual FPC is conducive to current shunting through the FPC connector to avoid overheating during high-power charging, dispersing the heat source; on the other hand, the thicker and lower impedance of the custom FPC also effectively reduces the energy loss in charging, reducing heat generation while enhancing charging efficiency.
Besides, the Mi 10 Ultra also uses Battery Sense cell voltage monitoring technology to accurately detect the true voltage of the cell, effectively avoiding errors brought about by the battery protection circuit, matching a more accurate charging strategy during the charging process, making the overall charging time further shortened.
Also, the cell voltage detection and cell balancing algorithm can balance the voltage difference between the dual cells to avoid overcharging of high-voltage cells and over-discharging of low-voltage cells to prolong battery life.
