Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition
Samsung today announced the Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition, its latest mobile innovation developed in partnership with the U.S. federal government and Department of Defense (DoD). It was developed for military purposes to provide high security and compatibility with existing peripherals and classified applications.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition (TE) has Dual-DAR architecture. It provides two layers of data encryption to protect confidential mission data by NSA standards. The Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition “provides warfighters with the technology that gives them an edge in the field while providing their IT teams with an easy-to-deploy, highly secure solution,” said Taher Behbehani, head of Samsung Electronics’ U.S. B2B mobile division.
While the Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition is built primarily on the consumer-grade Galaxy S20, it has some custom features that go beyond the higher security levels. It has a night vision mode that allows the operator to turn the display on or off while wearing night-vision goggles, and a stealth mode that disables LTE and blocks RF broadcasts for off-grid communications.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition also offers a way to easily unlock it in landscape mode when mounted on the chest, allowing operators to launch their most-used apps with the push of a button. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition can run multitasking apps including ATAK, APASS, KILLSWITCH, BATDOK, and is fully compatible with the Samsung DeX.
According to the official announcement, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition will be available in the third quarter of 2020 through select IT channel partners. However, the general public should not expect to be able to buy it on the open market.
