Huawei Mate 40 Series Free-form Lens and Kirin 1020
After the release of the P40 series, the Huawei Mate series will also be updated regularly. As usual, the Huawei Mate 40 series will be released in second half of the year.

This time the Huawei P40 series debuted a multi-reflection periscope 10x zoom, Leica’s five shots alone, the image capabilities of the Huawei Mate 40 series will naturally rise. There may be adjustments to the lens specifications and image orientation, but the overall performance is definitely at a level, perhaps stronger.
Today, International analyst Guo Mingji pointed out in the latest report that Huawei expects to use a free-form lens on the upcoming high-end Mate models in the second half of this year to improve wide-angle deformation.
It is also worth mentioning that, because Huawei holds the patent of the free-form lens, it is likely that the lens will only appear on Huawei mobile phones, and the supply chain will not supply other brands.
Free-form lens can effectively improve the distortion of shooting at wide angle. At present, most imaging systems are rotationally symmetrical. The method of breaking the rotational symmetry, such as freeform surfaces, can bring more obvious effects in correcting aberrations. At the same time, it can also make the entire imaging system without sacrificing image quality. Become more compact.
Huawei Kirin 1020
In addition to the upgrade of imaging capabilities, the Huawei Mate 40 series will also debut the next generation of Kirin processors. Previously, it was revealed that the next generation of Kirin’s flagship processor code-named “Baltimore” will not only use TSMC’s 5nm process, but it is rumored that both CPU and GPU will be greatly improved.
TSMC has two versions of N5 and N5P at 5nm. The performance of N5 is 15% higher than that of 7nm, the power consumption is reduced by 30%, and the crystal density is increased by 80%. The performance of N5P is 7% stronger than N5, and the power consumption is reduced by 15% again.
It is reported that the CPU part of Huawei Kirin 1020 is based on Cortex A77 or even A78, and its performance has increased by as much as 50% higher than Kirin 990. According to the news, the Kirin 1020 chip is expected to be delivered in large-scale in August this year, when Huawei may hold a new product launch in September.
