Earlier Shen Brian, said that under screen camera with current technology is not possible for mass production. Today Lu Weibing give explanation, why under screen camera not possible with current technology.
A according to Shen Yiren earlier this month when preheating OPPO Find X2 said that he would consider mass production of Find X2, so there is a high probability that the under-screen camera will not be installed.
Now, Lu Weibing also talked about the under-camera technology publicly. He stated that with the current technical capabilities, he could not find an effective solution that combines display effects and camera effects. There is still a long way to go to achieve mass production effects.
Why Under Screen Camera Not possible ?
Lu Weibing said that the application of CUP: Camera under Panel on mobile phones can achieve the real full-screen effect without sacrificing space, but there are still many difficulties in the current technology implementation. Simply put, it is the contradiction between the screen’s PPI and transmittance.
The current screen PPI is about 400, and the PPI is at this level. The light transmittance in the camera is very low, which seriously affects the photo effect. If the PPI is lowered and the transmittance is increased, there will be a large gap between the PPI in the display area and the PPI of the entire screen, which will cause phenomena such as color patches in the display area.
Therefore, with current technical capabilities, it is impossible to find an effective solution that takes into account both display effects and camera effects. Although Xiaomi released CUP-based technology DEMON in 2019, it is still far from achieving mass production.
Not long ago, Vision and the Terminal Lab of China Academy of Information and Communication Technology jointly released a white paper entitled “Observation and Trend Analysis of Smartphone Imaging Technology 2019”. The white paper believes that with the mature application of artificial intelligence technology in the field of smart phone photography, imaging technology has become one of the important indicators affecting mobile phone sales.
The white paper predicts that changes in the field of smartphone imaging applications in 2020 will mainly focus on AI algorithm chip-based acceleration products, the resumption of fingerprint recognition chips, ToF lenses will increase significantly, cameras and sensors will continue to innovate, and screen cameras will be 2020. Or commercial , periscope cameras will become standard in low-end mobile phones and other aspects.
The entire industry is working hard and believes that the future can be overcome.
