Huawei Kirin 990 Introduction
Today’s afternoon, Huawei released the Kirin 990 5G SoC in Germany at IFA 2019 consumer electronics show. This is the world’s first flagship integrated 5G SoC, and the world’s first 7nm EUV based (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) 5G SoC.
Kirin 990 will integrate 5G baseband chip Baron 5000, which can realize 5G network without external 5G chip. It also supports SA/NSA two 5G networking modes and supports TDD/FDD full frequency band. The download rate is 2.3Gbps, and the uplink peak rate is 1.25Gbps. After LTE is superimposed, the download peak rate is 3.3Gbps and the uplink peak rate is 1.32Gbps.
In terms of CPU, Kirin 990 uses 4 big core + 4 small core design schemes, respectively, 4 A76 big cores and 4 A55 small cores; GPU, Kirin 990 uses ARM Mali G76, is also the industry’s first 16 cores GPU, compared with the industry’s mainstream flagship chip, performance increased by 6%, energy efficiency increased by 20%; NPU, Kirin 990 uses self-developed DaVinci architecture NPU, composed of Ascend D110 Lite and Ascend D100 Tiny dual core, the big core shows excellence Performance, micro cores achieve ultra-low power consumption.
Kirin 990 5G built-in Kirin ISP 5.0, energy efficiency increased by 15%, photo noise reduction capacity increased by 30%, video noise reduction capacity increased by 20%. For the first time, dual-domain video noise reduction technology is implemented on the mobile phone chip. For the scene of noise mixing in the video, the noise is accurately separated.
Kirin 990 5G supports dual-card 5G experience, supporting 5G data + 4G call or 4G call + 4G call.
According to Huawei, the Kirin 990 5G is the world’s first mobile terminal chip with more than 10 billion transistors, reaching 10.3 billion transistors. Compared with the previous Kirin 980, the number of transistors increased by 4.4 billion.

Specifically, the Kirin 990 5G integrated CPU part uses two 2.86GHz A76 architecture cores, two 2.36GHz A76 architecture cores and four 1.95GHz A55 architecture cores. Large nuclear energy efficiency can be increased by 12%, medium nuclear energy efficiency by 35%, and small nuclear energy efficiency by 15%. And the Kirin 990’s large core frequency is 2.86GHz, the core frequency is reduced to 2.09GHz, and the small core frequency is reduced to 1.86GHz.
In terms of baseband, the Kirin 990 5G supports 2/3/4/5G networks and supports NSA/SA dual mode. Kirin 990 supports 2/3/4G networks.
Huawei Mate 30 Series with Kirin 990 Series processor
At the meeting, Huawei announced that the Huawei Mate 30 series will be launched with the Kirin 990 processor. It will be released in Munich on September 19th.
Honor V30 Series will also host Kirin 990 series.
