Samsung officially announced Exynos 980 5G. Here is specifications and availability.

On September 4th, Samsung officially announced its new SoC Exynos 980, its biggest feature is the integration of 5G baseband. According to the official, the Exynos 980 is built on an 8nm process that combines optimal connectivity with an integrated 5G modem and intelligent processing performance in a single chip. Detailed specifications as below.

Exynos 980 is built-in two 2.2GHz Cortex-A77 core and six 1.8GHz A55 core, GPU for Mali-G76 MP5, up to 3360 × 1440 resolution screen, built-in NPU, storage support LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.1/eMMC 5.1 flash memory.

Baseband, the integration of the 5G baseband is the biggest feature, supporting the band below 6GHz, the highest downlink rate of 2.55Gbps, the highest uplink rate of 1.28Gbps. Backward compatible with 2/3/4G networks, 4G supports up to LTE Cat.16 downlink (5 carrier 1Gbps) and LTE Cat.18 uplink (dual carrier 200Mbps).

In addition, the Exynos 980 also has built-in NPU. Officially, its AI performance is 2.7 times higher than that of the previous generation. The NPU can add application enhancements such as secure user authentication, content filtering, mixed reality, and smart cameras.

For photos, the Exynos 980 supports up to 108 megapixel of sensors, while the ISP supports up to five independent sensors that can handle three sensors simultaneously.

In terms of audio and video performance, it supports multi-format codec (MFC) and supports 4K/120FPS video encoding/decoding. It also supports HDR10+.
