Samsung ISOCELL 3T2 Specifications
Samsung Electronics officially announced today the release of its smallest image sensor ISOCELL Slim 3T2. The single-pixel 0.8μm ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is the smallest 1/3.4-inch (diagonal about 5.1 mm) image sensor that provides 20 megapixel (Mp) resolution for front and rear cameras in smartphones.
“The ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is our smallest and most versatile 20Mp image sensor, helping mobile device manufacturers bring differentiated consumer value, including not only camera performance, but also hardware design,” said Jinhyun, vice president of Samsung Sensor Marketing. Kwon said. “As mobile devices continue to grow in demand for advanced imaging capabilities, we will continue to push the limits of image sensor technology for a richer user experience.”
In addition to the 20 million effective 0.8μm pixels, ISOCELL Slim 3T2 also uses Samsung’s ISOCELL Plus technology.
To support smartphones with the latest display features, such as “opening display” or “notch design”, the front image sensor needs to be minimized while capturing high quality images. The 1 / 3.4″ 3T2 is suitable for a small module that provides more space for the display. In addition, Samsung’s Tetracell technology combines four pixels into one, allowing the 3T2 to capture brighter, sharper photos in low light settings.
When applied to a multi-camera setup with a telephoto solution, the 3T2 uses an RGB filter array instead of Tetracell technology. Compared to Samsung’s 1/3-inch 20Mp image sensor, the small-sized image sensor also reduces the height of the telephoto camera module by about 7%. Compared to a 13Mp sensor with the same module height, the 20Mp 3T2 maintains 60% effective resolution at 10x digital zoom.
Samsung’s ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is expected to be in volume production in the first quarter of this year.
